We know Sorrento very well but had never stayed at The Tramontano previously. We chose it as it is terrifically placed, on a clifftop location, a few minutes walk from the town centre bars and restaurants.

When we reached our room, we were expecting a nice bright, airey room of a reasonable size. We discovered that we were in a room with barely sufficient room to walk around the two single beds which had been put inside. Visited this Hotel on a weeks B & B basis in late summer 2006. I have to say this was the most let down I have ever felt at any Hotel I have visited. We know Sorrento very well but had never stayed at The Tramontano previously. We chose it as it is terrifically placed, on a clifftop location, a few minutes walk from the town centre bars and restaurants. On arrival, were were very impressed by the Hotel lobby and Public Rooms - very impressive and worth sticking your head through the Hotel Door even if you're not staying there. When we reached our room, we were expecting a nice bright, airey room of a reasonable size. We discovered that we were in a room with barely sufficient room to walk around the two single beds which had been put inside. There was only one chair in the room which we had to use to prop our suitcases behind as there was nowhere else to put them. We discovered that the Jaded oppulence we had expected and seen in the public rooms was actually shabby grubbiness in the guestrooms. Other complaints include paint peeling to bare wood on the door, plaster falling off on the balcony, black mould and a cracked toilet in the bathroom, poor quality room furtniture and insufficient wardrobe space. I am convinced that this was a single room which they had crammed two beds into. What made this event more of a let down was that this holiday was being taken as part of our 25th wedding anniversay. I had informed the Hotel of this prior to our arrival, but we never even recived the complimentary bottle of plonk for guests celebrating anniversaries. I am sure that there are some nice rooms in this Hotel, but beware, the grubby shabby ones are not nice!. This place passes itself off as a 4 / 5 Star Hotel. I have stayed in much better 3 star Hotels than this one.
Advantages: Clifftop setting, central Sorrento, fantastic service, value for money Disadvantages: Lift down to beach broken,
We stayed at the Imperial Hotel Tramontano in June ('07) and had one of the most enjoyable holiday experiences to date. It is difficult not to be impressed on arrival by the grand lobby area and public rooms. Apart from the obvious cliff-top location with corresponding views and sunsets, the one thing that made our stay here so enjoyable was the bend-over-backwards service and hospitality that we received from both reception and restaurant waiting ... ...the restaurant for three evenings for EUR20 a head for a three course meal. The service and food were second to none. The room was fine and facilities etc everything you would expect from a 4/5 star hotel. The traditional building, the views and the staff gives this place buckets of charm, which set it apart from other places we have stayed. We'll definitely be back. ...
