Advantages: beaches, people, hotels Disadvantages: beach boys
...The beaches around Mombasa are wonderful but it depends where you go!
By far the most spectacular are the beaches south of Mombasa but once you get on the main strip you will be driven mad by beach boys unless you choose your hotel carefully. One of the cheapest and the best is Traveller's Tiwi - here they only allow a few to use the beach - they don't pester guests because the hotel allows them to set up a shop after dinner once a week and this is part of the bargain!
The beach here is magic but it is difficult to swim at low tide.the roooms are excellent and staff and food good. You can walk up the beach from here and it's just palm trees, monkeys, fishermen and beautiful private houses - but go in a group as it is a bit lonely!
The best is the IndianOceanBeachClub - I've stayed everywhere and this is the best hotel ever...

...i have been to this hotel many times over the past few years and every time it has been a joy.
first of all the hotel is split into 2 parts.
the first part with the reception is the half board side and the second part is the all inc side.
the hotel has a few resturants which include an indian and italitan.
the pools in this hotel is excellent and always clean. there are a few pools in the complex, which can be useful if you do not want to be crowed in one pool.
give the workers a few shillings nd they will look after all the towels and beds while you are out during the day.
the rooms are very spacious and have ac and a small balcony.
the tv is however a let down, but with a view from the balcony why would you need a tv....

Advantages: Lovely holiday resort Disadvantages: Be careful of your valuables
...I am from Kenya and have been to Mombasa several times. In fact I was there was millenium as well.
Well people have different views about different places as they hear different things from other people.
I would agree that Kenya in general is quite unsafe if you don't take care but if you do the necessary preparations to avoid getting into these circumstances, you will be just fine.
Mombasa is a lovely city with white sandy beaches. Divided into 2...the north and south coast both have hotels alond the beach. These hotels are all exclusive and they would be having all sorts of facilities from swimming pools to tennis courts to squash courts to bars to restaurants to pool games to acrobatics entertainment. There is a lot going on. There are also quite a few really nice clubs on the beach which play till the early morning hours of the day...

The hotel was extremely clean and the facilities were very good. The pools were varied with a fun pool, a middle pool with pool side music (loud) throughout the day and a 'quiet' pool which was always very quiet (virtually deserted) and relaxing with... more
"Oceanic" is about as appropriate a name as one could possibly think of for this album by avant-garde post-metal band Isis, from 2002. Think of the breadth and power of the ocean, the depth and mystery of the water, and Isis have- perhaps unwittingly,... more
