This track was used for the first time last year, but I have to say it is a great addition to the F1 calendar.
There was a lot of talk before the event, speculation as to the design of the track? How much of the original Indianapolis track would renmain, would F1 cars really drive around in circles?
The answer is no, and despite retaining very little of the original and historic track, they have produced a great F1 circuit.
Its main feature is a long banked corner (from the original oval) which leads in to a long start/finish straigh, which is ended by a slow right-left corner. This is great because the banked corner allows trailing cars to closely follow the leading car through the turn, and then have a great shot at getting a slip stream down the main straight and out brake the other car in to the slow first turn.
The great start/finish section is complemented by a tight twist infield, a short straigh in to a combination of two tight hairpins poses a massive challenge for the drivers, and another opportunity for a slightly daredevil overtaking manouevre.
Other may shun the track, but I like it. It was built with the idea that it could be altered in the fututure, so it can only get better.
A great addition to the F1 calendar, and I look forward to this seasons race.
