We were supposed to be only passing Indianapolis on our travels between Chicago and Nashville, but due to traffic jams and the need for sleep and a beer or two we decided to stop just outside Indianapolis in one of the many a road side Motels. Now none of us were really great motor racing fans but the gentleman told us you can not visit Indianapolis without going to the circuit. At the time we were not too sure but after a few beers decided we would pop in on the way past and we were so glad we did. When we actually found the way into the circuit (it felt like we did a couple of laps looking for the entrance) we paid our three dollar's museum entry and the extra three dollars for a trip round the circuit.
After I look round the museum so we could learn a little about the sport, we went on the trip round the track. It was basically a slow drive round the track with a taped commentary about the history of the track, some of which we had just learnt from the museum, with a stop at the start/finish line for photos (but you were not allowed to leave the bus) it was so good we even persuaded our driver to take us round again as he had spare seats.
As well as the history of the circuit, the museum was basically full of different cars that had raced the circuit throughout its history with some very knowledgeable retired men and women who could either answer all your question or knew whom to ask or where to look.
Unfortunately we did not see the rest of the city as once we were back on the expressway we could not get off again, maybe next time.
I would say if you are ever close to the city it is worth spending half a day at the circuit.

Glad you got to at least see a little slice of what our State Capital has to offer. I'm not a race fan, either, but this circuit experience does sound educational. Hope you get to come back and enjoy more of Indy one of these days!!! :o)
