On the second day, when people came back to the village, they were surprised that the village was not damaged by NIAN. And they saw that old man wore a red rope and sit there very well. The old man told villagers NIAN was afraid of red, light and huge sound, so he told them to decorate their windows and doors in red paper and make firework at the end of the year. Then the old man disappeared.
People followed his word every year, and then NIAN did not come to hurt people any more. People started their peaceful and happy life. To celebrate, on this first day of the year, they went to relatives' and friends' house to greet and wish them a healthy and peaceful new year. And the term GUO NIAN in Chinese means "survive the NIAN".

A place where the England Football Team come back time and time again to be pampered, a place that celebrities are often seen relaxing in. So when I felt last week very stressed and in need of 24hrs complete relaxation I couldn?t think of a better place to go. I had never been to Champneys Springs before and so was very excited as to what it would be like and wondering whether I might bump into a celebrity on my stay there. The resort is situated out in the countryside of Ashby de la Zouch in Leicestershire.
