Diamond review   Gili Trawangan, An exotic island in Lombok!!!
Review of Gili Islands (Lombok) by LadyLuna

Advantages: Soft white sandy beach with Crystal clear water, Great Diving!!!
Disadvantages: Tourism is not quite as developed yet; in the island fresh water is expensive on the island.

I was on Gili Trawangan island in 2004, It is one of the Islands around Lombok, that was my last trip to Lombok but the best among my trips to Bali and Lombok. Actually It is undeniable that Bali is still a beautiful and relaxing place for vacation, but for me still Lombok better. Why?? Because I found that over the years Bali has lost its touch and now it become too commercial and too westernize. Lombok is still pure in its culture and tradition ...
...white sand beaches of the Gili Islands. Lombok is still undiscovered paradise with lush tropical, which will attract every heart with fascination. I would describe the island as the only holiday resort where you may relax and recover. Plenty of glistening white sandy beaches are found on almost all of the entire island boundaries, but this is not all that offer, the smaller island to the north namely Gili Air, Gili Meno, Gili Trawangan and to the ... Disadvantages: Avarage managed

...Denpasar to Mataram, but I will not recommend to use boat for safety reason. It's easy to find good hotels around Senggigi, with various prices. I am not quite sure, but people said that Senggigi has the longest coast-line in Indonesia. * (c) 2007 Cecep Syamsul Hari ... Read review

A Hidden Spicy Paradise East of Bali
Review of General: Lombok by daryllau

Advantages: Secluded and much more relaxing due to lack of travellers.
Disadvantages: Transportation is slightly tricky but nothing a rented bike won't solve.

The island of Lombok which means 'Chilli' in Indonesian is located to the east of Bali. From the small black sand bays of Sengiggi, some of the most spectacular sunsets on the planet can be witnessed. The pace of life is slow to the point of stopping and the southern coast of Lombok has some of the most stunning beaches in Indonesia. From silhouetted palms, to mist ringed volcanoes, Lombok island is a haven of natural beauty and just the ticket for ...
...of Lombok in recent years. Most tourists make the trip to here to get away from the hustle and bustle of nearby Bali and enjoy the serene beaches. The flight from Bali to Lombok's Mataram airport takes just 30 minutes but upon arrival its like stepping into a different era altogether. Getting around is quite convenient with reasonably priced Bemo (converted minivans) or the tourist favourite Cidomo (horse pulled cart). The local inhabitants of ... Read review

A landlocked people who build boat-like
Review of Tanatoraja (Sulawesi) by ImogenW

Advantages: Amazing culture
Disadvantages: Remote location

houses, Christian Animists who celebrate funerals by prayers and the ritual slaughter of water buffalo, then bury their dead in cliffs and decorate them with lifesize models of the deceased, the people of tana toraja are a strange and wonderful lot. As is the region itself , a mountainous area in central sulawesi filled with mountains sculpted with padi fields, elaborate houses built on stilts and covered with elaborate carvings, quite astonishingly ...
...one knows who the mysterious torajans are, their ethnicity is completely unknown as are the origins of their christianity. Their mix n'match attitude to religion is especially appealing, tho whoever converted them must have despaired at their ability to take the bits they liked and just jumble them up with their ancient animist beliefs. It's a bugger to get to, which (un)fortunately means lots of people don't bother, but if you do I promise you'll ... Read review

Headhunters and life in darkest Borneo
Review of Pontianak (Borneo) by ImogenW

Advantages: Exotic, mysterious and a true adventure
Disadvantages: Few obvious destinations, travel can be expensive

...In fact, I was in Pontianak (West Kalimantan or KalBar as the locals call it - why indonesians have to shorten everything is beyond me) while most of the atrocities in Sampit and Palankaraya (Central Kalimantan) were taking place, and although there was a faint air of unease it was largely generated by people worrying that the trouble might spread rather than that horrible tense air you get before trouble. So, what's to say about Pontianak itself? ...
...and head straight out of Pontianak to the interior (isn't that a great word?) The only reason I didn't was that I was staying with a friend, and now I wish I had. She's been working for a forestry NGO for several months there, and has some amazing stories of the astonishing national parks. If you are a forestry fan, this is undoubtedly the place to be: the vast majority of Borneo is still rainforest, although the logging companies are doing their ... Read review
