As I have a young family, my wife and I choose to spend our holidays in this country rather than go abroad just yet. As well as a lot of other families, we are on quite a tight budget so we look for good value holidays that are fun for everyone.
Whilst looking for somewhere to go on holiday one year a friend of mine mentioned that his parents had got a caravan at Ingoldmells. I vagueley remembered this place from my childhood and from what I remember it was great fun. We went ahead and booked the caravan. We weren't really sure what to expect but we were pleasantly surprised.
The caravan that we booked was a 9 berth one. It was very spacious and had all the facilities you would expect such as a TV a fridge, Iron, Kettle, cooker, microwave and
vacuum cleaner. There were also duvets, pillows, crockery, cutlery, pots and pans and some cleaning materials. Like I said, we booked a 9 berth caravan. This means that it can sleep up to 9 people. There are 2 bedrooms, 1 twin and 1 with single bunk beds, a fold out double bed in the lounge and 3 other single beds that can be made from the setee. There were 6 of us that went and we found that we had more than enough room - we have since been again and there were 8 of us and there was still plenty of room.
The caravan was booked for the first week in July and it cost us £150 for the week, this included gas, electricity and water. There are no extra charges. Ingoldmells has many caravan parks and prices vary but the average price is about £200-£250 pounds a week.
Ingoldmells is a very family orientated place. There is an absolutley massive fairground with a number of rollercosters and white knuckle rides. The most famous has to be the Volcano. This is a ride where people sit in a ring around a 200ft steel tower, and you get launched up the tower at 60mph. Scary stuff! There are a lot of rides suitable for younger children such as a carousel, a log flume, a jellykins water ride and many many more. Rides are paid for with tokens, these cost 50 pence each but the more you buy the less you pay. For certain rides you need special tokens but these can all be obtained from the machines and kiosks located around the park.
Ingoldmells also boasts the biggest outdoor market in Europe. This is amazing, you can buy anything from T-shirts to Flip-Flops, Atershave to Cd's and just about anything else you can think of. There are some stalls that do sell products or items that are of poor quality or are copies of well known brands so my advice would be to have a good look at what you are buying before you pay for it.
Along the main streets of Ingoldmells you will find lots of arcades and fish and chip shops. Most of the aracades have security gaurds so you can feel fairly safe, saying this though my wife had her purse stolen from her coat pocket, luckily she didn't have much money in it at the time. Keep your eyes peeled and don't leave valuables in sight. As well as fish and chip shops there are also a few restaurants, these are very reasonably priced and allow children to dine aswell. There is also a Burger King and good old MacDonalds for those who arent so adventurous.
The nightlife at Ingoldmells is execllent, there are a few bars and clubs, most of the pubs will allow children in but obviously the clubs dont. At most places there is live entertainment at least once a week and also a number of bingo sessions with very good prize money. All the entertainment is advertised on boards outside of these venues.
The beaches at Ingoldmells are lovely, they are cleaned daily and often have donkey rides available. The sea obviously isn't sparkling and blue like it is abroad but it isn' all that dirty either.
Ingoldmells is loacted on the East Coast just a stones throw from Mablethorpe and Skegness. Skegness is a good place to shop as there are a lot of well known stores and they also have a market, they also have a fairground. Mablethorpe also has a fairground, this is aimed more at the much younger generation as it has much more gentle rides.
Although we were on the east coast the weather was gloryous most days, dont get me wrong we had a few rain showers but most of the time you could walk around in shorts and T-shirts. This very much depends on the time of the year that you go though, as with anywhere in the UK!
On thw whole we had a brilliant time and plan to back on a regular basis even if it is just for a daytrip.
