Advantages: Only £49 a night, very near the motorway, only 6 miles from the city centre Disadvantages: The lack of leisure facilities would make a longer stay rather boring

My husband sorted out the booking, which was all done on line at their website, http://www.innkeeperslodge.com and told me the cost was £49 for the night, including a continental breakfast, which I think, is a very decent price.

Last weekend my husband and I attended a big family get together up in Leeds. Since there were far too many of us to all stay with the relatives hosting the party all guests were given a list of suitable accommodation in the area.
One of the places on the list was an Inn Keeper's Lodge. I have to be honest, I had my reservations about it, even though we were told by someone who'd stayed there before that it was fine for an over night stay.
My husband sorted out the booking, which was all done on line at their website, http://www.innkeeperslodge.com and told me the cost was £49 for the night, including a continental breakfast, which I think, is a very decent price.
The place was easy to drive to using the AA route finder directions; it was located 6 miles outside of Leeds city centre. Arriving at the Lodge I saw that it was located next to a Toby pub and carvery. The lodge itself was a modern 3 storey building that looked very similar to a holiday inn of that sort of establishment. A fair sized car park was available and could accommodate around 200 cars.
Check In ******* The lodge check in was located in the Toby pub. From the moment of walking in I felt really hungry as the carvery smelt so good. During our short wait for a staff member at reception we watched enviously as people wandered around with large plates of food, the Yorkshires were enormous, and the meat looked great too. Not ideal for vegetarians though I'd imagine. Apparently they have a choice of 3 roast meats and eight sorts of fresh vegetables. We were served within 5 minutes, the check in procedure was easy, my husband just had to pay for the booking, and then we were handed our room key. It was explained to us that breakfast was continental only and served between 8am and 10am at weekends. We were told were to go for our breakfast, and then that was the check in done. As a matter of interest the cavery costs just £8 for all you can eat, and food is served until 10pm Monday to Saturday, and 9.30pm on Sunday.
The Room ******** We wandered out of the pub and walked back to the lodge. As we entered the lodge building we walked through a very small lobby area that had chairs and visitor leaflets on the area. There were rooms located on the ground floor, and the lodge does advertise itself as having disabled facility rooms. Our room was on the 2nd floor, which was just a short walk up a flight of stairs. I wasn’t expecting much from the room for the price, but I was pleasantly surprised. The bathroom was very clean, with a shower, sink with mirror unit, and toilet. There were several clean white towels supplied, and fixed to the wall in the shower, and next to the sink were bottles of Dove hand and body wash. In the room itself was a small open area with a clothes rail, a tea tray with hot drink making facilities and biscuits. Two nice single beds (it was all they had left!) with wooden headboards and nice quality bed clothes that both proved very comfortable to sleep in. There was a small television, and desk with chair and telephone. The windows faced out over the car park towards the motorway, but the noise was minimal. I discovered that the television had all of the usual terrestrial channels, as well as Sky sports and news. The room also had internet access via the telephone; however you could also pay a certain amount for Wi-Fi access. There was a note in the bathroom to say that if you'd forgotten any toiletries they had a range of the most common ones available. Such as toothpaste, toothbrush, disposable razor etc. It advised the guest to dial 401 from their room phone to request anything.
As we were due at the family gathering for 4pm and we'd checked in at 3 we made use of the shower and had a cup of tea before getting ready to go out.
After a very nice time of catching up with relatives at the party we arrived back at the lodge at around 11.30pm and slept very well until morning.
Breakfast ******* We woke at 9 and made our way down stairs and into the carvery building for breakfast. The layout of the breakfast room was like a pub would normally be, booth areas and smaller tables set in the centre of the room. We were asked for our room number and then headed round to see what was on offer. There was freshly sliced melon and grapefruit, several types of cereal and hot filter coffee to help yourself to, I think you had to ask for tea though. There was a toaster machine that you fed slices into, it then toasted them and they fell out of the bottom. There were several choices of spreads such as marmite, and jams and croissants, bagels and cheese. Complimentary copies of The Independent newspaper were dotted about the place so I grabbed one and headed back to the table with my toast and coffee. The room was decorated with lots of photos and pictures from films and television, so there was plenty to look at whilst eating.
Other facilities ************ After breakfast we headed back to our room to check out. Whilst in the lobby I looked over a few of the visitor leaflets and discovered that there is a retail park 5 minutes walk away that has shops, bars, restaurants and a cinema. There were also several stately homes within a reasonable drive time, as well as several sporting venues too like Elland Road.
I would recommend the Lodge for any overnight stay. I found the staff there pleasant and it served its purpose.
