Athenaeum Luxury at the InterContinental

Advantages: Helpful staff, lovely bedrooms, mini-bus service into the centre
Disadvantages: Not much in the local area, expensive, facilities not the best

(which had a view of the Acropolis) was marble effect floor rather than carpet, and had a sofa, glass coffee table with a couple of glossy Greek tourism magazines, and a writing desk and chair. There was also a kettle with Lipton teabags and Nescafe coffee sticks. There was air-conditioning but even on full blast it was still quite warm. On opening the window the room became a bit noisy. At least the blackout curtains kept the room darkened. The Bathroom: Very clean, but showing it's age a bit. There was a white fluffy bathrobe and slippers, which is always a plus point, bathroom scale (not so good!) and lovely Korres toiletries and a hygiene kit containing face pads, cotton buds and a mini sewing kit. It's nice to see that the Inter-Continental is using a natural, Greek brand. This consisted of Aloe and Soapwort shampoo, Achillea ...

Review of Hotel Athenaeum InterContinental, Athens

Pyramids of Giza : Amazing Experience, very glad I've been.

Advantages: Amazing sights
Disadvantages: No facilities, might be difficult with kids

I visited the Pyramids at Giza as part of a day trip organised from the Thomson Celebration on the Red Sea Magic cruise. This was one of the main reasons I went on that particular cruise and I couldn't wait for the planned excursion on day 4. The trip cost £32 for the trip to Cairo which included time at the viewing point, some time at the Pyramids themselves, a trip to the Sphinx and then an afternoon shopping in Cairo. It was an early start from the ship (7am) and then a two hour drive to Cairo from Port Sokhna where we were docked. After our initial disbelief at the crazy and chaotic driving on entering the city (according to our guide "someone gets hit around once every minute") we crossed the Nile and drove into Cairo. Suddenly out in the smog and haze of the city you could make out the outline of two huge pyramids ...

Review of Cairo Attractions: The Giza Pyramids

The Giza Pyramids are amazing

Advantages: You get to go inside, you get to ride camels
Disadvantages: The people there are poor and will hassle you and even try to trick you into buying things

If a trip to Egypt is not on your list of places to go in life you need to make a change. This was one of the best trips I have ever taken. Seeing the great pyramids is the number one reason I wanted to visit Egypt and it was well worth it along with a ton of other interesting things. The pyramids are something we have heard about and learned about all our lives yet there is nothing like standing in front of these amazing structures that still today we cant duplicate. The stories and legands behind them are even more interesting to hear as your sitting on the bottom block. The tour we took had us ride by camel through the dessert and to each pyramid, it was a once in a life time experience. You can even go inside them, although if you do not like small spaces I do not recommend it. There is also a light show at the pyramids that is ...
