Advantages: 5 Star Resort, with Excellent facilities and good value for money Disadvantages: Located in a quiet area, not for those who are wanting to party
...My partner and myself visited The Grand Resort (Hurghada, Egypt) in September 2004. Overall this is an excellent hotel and all you would expect from a 5 star resort.
The Hotel has Two huge Swimming Pools, one in particular taking form of a small lagoon. There is a bridge walkway to a small restaurant/snack bar in the middle of the pool, which holds BBQ's. Sunbeds and Towels are complimentary. The Grand Resort is also situated opposite its sister hotel, The Grand, where you have use of its private beach and once again Sunbeds and towels.
The Food choices were excellent and tasty. There was enough choice for you to have something different every night if you wish - we did and we were there for two weeks! A buffet style Breakfast and Evening Meal. Evening Meal choices would range from different fresh home made soups, to Veal, Beef...

Advantages: Close to the monuments, a beautiful location Disadvantages: Four hours from Aswan by Coach if there are no flights.
...and the backs of the chairs would suddenly fall backwards without any warning - not good if you were having a drink but fortunately there were enough functional seats for us all and it would be okay for the few short trips we would make in it. First stop was to check in at the Seti Abu Simbel Hotel.
You drive through the arched entrance gate flanked by hotel security guards and the coach circles round the driveway to pull up in front of Reception. The hotel is set up more like a Caribbean holiday village resort with the main public areas close together in the centre and the hotel rooms/chalets radiating out. All the public areas are on ground level, each accessed via linked court yards. In the main courtyard behind reception there is a large water feature with water coming out of the sculptured heads of local animals into the pool below...

Advantages: friendly people, nice beach, beautiful hotel, weather Disadvantages: hotel too out of the way, activities catered more for Germans
...I went to Hurghada in April 2006 and the weather was absolutley beautiful, although the sun is still really strong even in April. On my first day there i went exploring the hotel complex...and i didn't use any suntan lotion and i got burnt!! That was just walking about for a couple of hours. TIP Make sure you use sun lotion!
I stayed outside the main town at the Coral Beach Rotana Resort which is along Safaga Road, this where a number of hotels are. Although there are a few shops at the hotel they are not that interesting and it is a mile walk to the next hotel along the strip, again the shops aren't that interesting. There are five restaurants to sample i only went in the main one as i was paying to go half board, I thourughly enjoyed the food. The restaurants were - Mermaid, Al zaeem cafe, Blue Moon, La tana Discotheque...
