Ionian Hotel Costa Blu, Corfu

Advantages: Clean hotel, 24 hour pizza and bar
Disadvantages: out of town

...Having never been to Corfu before me and 7 other friends took the plunge and decided to book a last minute holiday in Kavos with Thomas Cook. We selected the Ionian Sea View Hotel which is located in Aspro Kavos, about 15 minutes walk from the town centre. The hotel itself was basic but very clean. The rooms came with bathroom (shower, bath, toilet, sink), beds, dressing table, small kitchen, fridge and balcony. The kitchen was hidden away in a cupboard like thing, it had 2 hobs and a sink. Quilts were provided for the bed but we never needed them as it was so hot. Air Conditioning is also available to hire but we didn't bother. The hotel also had 2 pool tables and a table tennis table (which had seen better days) but never the less provided some entertainment whilst we waited to go out. Advantages: The ONLY good hotel in Gouvia!!!
Disadvantages: The ONLY thing in Gouvia!!!

...Quite a harsh title, but I think quite fair. I went out to Gouvia in early July with my other half and found that the hotel (FOUR stars by the way!!!) was fantastic in every way other than the free for all breakfast. The location of the hotel is brilliant with the tide bringing the sea right up to the hotel complex walls which harbour the smallest of two great pools. The beach-side pool is quite small and square, but then again who needs a pool when the clear blue Ionian Sea is a footstep away?? The second pool, nicknamed the Lagoon, is about a two minute walk inland and is MASSIVE!!! There are plenty of sunbeds surrounding the pool so that you can leave the missus and grab yourself a beer at the poolside bar, which is reasonably priced for local beers and snacks. Advantages: central location
Disadvantages: small, overcrowded, chaos!

...This summer I visited Corfu with my boyfriend for the first time, it was absolutely wonderful. Having avoided the mayhem of Kavos we settled for the resort of Moratika, it was only 40 minutes from the airport. For those of you who have visited Corfu before, you may know what i am on about when i say that the airport is conpletely chaotic during peak season. The reps had warned us of the likelihood of huge queues etc. The queues were not the problem, for such a busy place the terminal simply needed to be a whole lot bigger than it was. There was no where to sit, people were sitting on the floor, standing in the middle of aisles, sharing seats, sitting on bags, and this makes for an unpleasant end to what has been a lovely break.
