Never Mind The Barometer - Watch The Goats
Advantages: See text of opinion Disadvantages: See text of opinion
...sleepy little seaside hamlet of Lahinch in Co. Clare were rudely awoken from their slumber by the sound of hundreds of horses and men clattering down their main street.
The British Army had arrived in this far-flung corner of Clare in the South West of Ireland, in the form of the officers and men of the famous Black Watch Regiment from the Highlands of Scotland. Life was never to be the same again, because along with them the Scotsmen brought their ... ...said of the town of Lahinch in Ireland.
Nowadays there are two golf courses here in this tiny West Clare village, the old and famous links itself, and alongside it, its little sister, the Castle course.
But golf permeates everything here in Lahinch, and every business, restaurant, hotel, and hostelry is steeped in golfing goods and paraphernalia, and the village plays host each year to countless thousands of golfers who travel here from all corners ...

A Classic - Just Like The Cars
Advantages: Magnificent golf course. Magnificent hotel. Magnificent facilities. In short, simply magnificent. Disadvantages: Not a thing!
...golfer and designer of the Mount Wolseley Golf Club. “Rarely after a first look around a potential site for a golf course had I been so impressed as at Mount Wolseley, not just with the ideal and natural roll of the ground itself, but also with the magnificence of this delightful rural countryside. It is an idyllic location that, no doubt, influenced the Wolseley family when they built the present house here almost a century and a half ago.
What ... ...let’s concentrate on what makes Mount Wolseley so special as far as the mad cabbie is concerned; the truly magnificent golf links.
~ ~ Mount Wolesley is a relatively new golf course (early 1990’s) but is built on a very old country estate that was owned for generations by the Wolesley family, who made their family fortune building Wolesley motor cars. (Anyone remember them? I certainly do, as the first car I ever owned was a 1959 Wolesley 15/60, ...

Cigarettes and Alcohol...and Rollerblading
Advantages: A quite unique hillwalking experience... Disadvantages: ...which is both a blessing and a curse
...The majority know it as Croagh Patrick. And to one expatriate Englishman (sorry Dave), it's 'that fecking Reek'. The First Golden Cleric You'd have thought that 'being Welsh' would constitute a crippling obstacle on the path to 'becoming patron saint of Ireland'. But Maewyn Succat was made of sterner stuff: born into a Christian family in Wales in 415AD (or maybe 387AD), he was abducted into slavery by an Irish brigand to present-day Antrim when ... ...And legendarily, he went to Croagh Patrick... St Patrick, tired from the hustle, bustle and wild partying of late Iron Age Ireland, allegedly spent 40 days fasting on the summit of the mountain: they didn't have The Late Late Show with Gaybo back then, so to pass the time he built a church on the top, used a silver bell to knock a pesky she-demon out of the sky, and banished all the serpents in Ireland to a hollow near the summit: presumably he used ...

Bunratty Castle and Folk Park
Advantages: Too many to number Disadvantages: Never enough time
Bunratty Castle and the Folk Park is a visit not to miss whatever your age. We spent 3 hours looking around the Castle and the grounds and could have spent longer there but we had only a few days over in Ireland.
We arrived at the Castle ready for the opening time and there where already 2 coached in the car park and a few cars. As we left the bus park had 15 coaches and the car park was full. We were so pleased that we arrived early as walking ... ...next port of call is Bunratty House, a late Georgian House that was the home of the Hughes brothers who started the dairy industry in the 1800's and later HB Ice Cream. The views from the windows over the park land again is just wonderful, and there are 3 deer in the field to watch roam.
As you walk back you come across the village street, which has the following: The Doctor's House, Artisan House, Brown's Pawnbroker, J.J. Corry's Pub, Drapery, ...
