Ireland

Advantages: Safe
Disadvantages: weather

I just visited to Ireland from Malta on a Rynair flight, with my wife and a three year old kid. We rented a cottage in Borrisokane, and a car from Dublin airport. Please take car for the car hire prices - I was given a quote on the internet and wasn't respected when I presented y booking. You can find several offers at the airport. Use a GPS - very helpful, especially on the way outside Dublin. The roads near the airport and the Dublin ring road ...
...fine. People - they are fantastic and more than welcome. They love to chat and help tourists. Once we stopped for a coffee and an old gentleman asked us to join and talk to us. Ireland is an untouched place and a relaxing country. They are very late back people. The Irish seems to love family - lot of pregnant ...

Be Careful Not To Wake Finn MacCool

Advantages: Spectacular natural structure
Disadvantages: Cold, wet and windy iost of the time

...It is world famous as County Antrim's 'wonder of the world' and although similar structures to this can be found off the coast of Scotland (Fingal's Cave) and in Iceland, this one is the most striking and awesome spectacle of them all. All around you is the wild and windy Atlantic Ocean, off the coastline of County Antrim. The Causeway itself looks like a stack of huge squared off blocks, all on top of each other. The fabulous colours of the rock ...
...the light and the weather. It is made up of more than 40,000 closely packed basalt columns. Some of these are as much as 90 feet thick. The highest columns reach about 40 feet above sea level. These were formed about 60 million years ago when molten lava came up from the seabed. The sheer scale of the Causeway is breath taking. This is a cold and windy place, even on a warm day and it is easily accessible from Port Ballintrae and Port Rush. There ...

The Usual Place Pub, Ennis

Advantages: Warm, friendly, great atmosphere.
Disadvantages: We could not stay longer.

...extensively in Europe one of the places we have never visited is Ireland, so we went last weekend. We flew to Shannon and hired a car for the four days. The weather was atrocious, and didn't get much better all the time we where there. Shannon as my brother told me is just an estate of houses, due mainly to the airport being used for the Trans Atlantic flights, but as we drove through and around Shannon we could not seem to find a pub. Having ...
...set out to explore in the rain. The road had two choices, Galway or Limerick we chose the Galway route. We came across a sign for Ennis, so took that and as we drove through the town along the main road, a pub sign took our eye so we found a parking space, a small multi storey is just 4 shops away and went in, and ordered our first Guinness, of many on that trip. The pub was warm, full of local people as it had been the Friday market, some stalls ...

A FOODIES PARADISE

Advantages: Great place to relax and chill out
Disadvantages: Out of the way to travel to for most

...THERE From Cork City, Kinsale is around 17 miles by car taking around half an hour – the roads are pretty basic windy country roads so please beware! From Belfast l traveled to Dublin via the Enterprise train taking usually 3 hours – it was as usual late (this ALWAYS happens) and it was nearer 4 hours by the time l entered Dublin’s Connolly station. I met Paul outside the railway station (he was working in Dublin!) and we then ...
...is on the road to Kinsale and carriers such as aerlingus; fly be; bmi baby; ryan air and ba all make the trip from various regional UK airports and indeed a few European airports too. The closest ferry port to Kinsale which is a 35 minutes drive is that of Ringaskiddy (don’t ya just love Irish place names!) or that of Cork Harbour is close by too. Finally at Cork International Airport the usual car hire people – Avis, Budget or Hertz ...

Sheer Magic

Advantages: Go Back In Time To Ireland Of Yore.
Disadvantages: The Effect Of Mass Tourism.

The 3 Aran Islands lay about 4 miles off the West Coast of Ireland. The largest island Inishmore receives the most visitors but Inishmean and Inisheer also have much to offer. This opinion is based on a day and night spent on the smallest of the islands, Inisheer. There are about 300 people living on Inisheer (Irish is the primary language) but in the summer months this figure is dramatically increased by visitors from the mainland. The landscape ...
...the patron saint of the Aran Islands, St.Enda. During the summer months there are Archaeological and Historical Walks organised as well as Irish language courses. Father Ted There is a Russian Freighter wreck on the south of the island. It was washed ashore in 1960 and looks a little out of place. It is the wreck that is shown in the opening credits to the Father Ted comedy series that was filmed a few miles away on the mainland. Getting There and ...
