you can normally it in the bar area but if its a special occassion the upstairs restaurant is very elegant. The Londonderry Arms Hotel. Co Antrim
Advantages: charming reasonably piced rooms and award winning food Disadvantages: can get busy
...paid a visit to the Londonderry Arms, a 3 star hotel with two restaurants in the charming and quaint harbour village of Carnlough. Carnlough is about 15 minutes drive north of Larne along the very picturesque coastal road otherwise known as the A8.
History
The Londonderry Arms has a rich and interesting history proudly available in leaflets amongst a wide selection of magazines free for perusal.
The Londonderry Arms Hotel was built in 1848 as ... ...later the third Marquis of Londonderry and sometime affectionately known as fighting Charlie. As Ambassador he assisted his half-brother Castlereagh, and afterwards the Duke of Wellington in the negotiations of the celebrated Congress of Vienna. Lady Londonderry was greatly admired at the Russian Court and the Russian Emperor, Alexander I, gave her some of the Londonderry family jewels - the Down diamonds and the parture and cross. Conscious of their ...

Ballygally Castle-sleep with the lights on there's a ghost
Advantages: Relaxing, welcoming, friendly, lovely mix of old and new, real fires Disadvantages: Parts are looking a little worn
...- - The Ballygally Castle is the only 17th Century building in Northern Ireland still being used as a residence today. The information on the website states that "Ballygally Castle was built in 1625 by James Shaw and his wife Isabella Brisbane. Over the main entrance door to the Castle, leading to the tower is the inscription "1625 - OD.IS.PROVIDENS.IS.MY.INHERITANS". Above this is a shield with the coats of arms of the Shaw and Brisbane families ... ...transport to get out and about as there is very little in Ballygally itself. Overall a homely feeling and lovely staff. Its nice to stay somewhere unusual even if you do have to sleep with the light on. Room prices from £120 per night including breakfast. ...

OAK WOOD ARMS HOTEL SHANNON
Advantages: Very good Hotel, great service Disadvantages: In the wrong place.
Just back from a weekend Jaunt to Ireland. We flew Ryanair Eastmidlands to Shannon, £38 return (No hold luggage and online checkin).
We booked the Oakwood Arms at Shannon, this was mainly as our return flight was 09:30 Monday morning and we did not want to get up early to travel.
We booked it thru LATEROOMS.COM for 85 Euros a night for Double room with Buffet Breakfast.
Ireland seems to be pricey for Hotels, so this was not too bad (We do cheaper ... ...Car so after picking that up it was just a 10 min Drive into Shannon and the Hotel.
First Impressions were very good, better than most of the reviews we had read.
Its a low level building on the edge of Shannon, not that there's much in the middle of Shannon, just seems to be a Housing Estate.
Checkin looks very smart and professional, we were checked in in just a few minutes, all was explained Breakfast Times, location of Restaurant and Sophies ...

Two Star Mediocrity at 4 star prices,Killyhevlin
Advantages: None Disadvantages: Overpriced,mis-classiffied, mediocre
...this review helpful
Booked the killyhevlin because it claimed to be a four star hotel. What a let down. The Killyhevlin is tatty, outdated hotel. The foyer was a warning , adorned as it was with fruit machines! The carpet in the wing in which our room was situated was stained and dirty. The room was poorly furnished with scratched and damaged cheap furniture that would have looked cheap even when it was new, which I'm guessing was in the 80's. The ... ...there.
All in all the Killyhevlin is a downbeat 2 star roadhouse/motel badly in need of modernization and a damm good cleaning and certainly desperatley in need of some trained professional waiting staff. If you want to pay £70 per person per night sharing for mediocrity and a "couldn't give a care" attitude, then this is the place for you.
The hotel has been given 4 stars by the Northern Ireland Tourist Board, either their inspector is related ...
