Nice surroundings, too steamy at night
Review of Bunratty Shannon Shamrock, Shannon by
cooler1968
Advantages: Central location, loads of local attractions
Disadvantages: Rooms a little outdated. Modernisation needed
This hotel is one of a number around the small Village of Bunratty, mid way between Ennis and Limerick, with Shannon Airport being located just 8 miles from here.
Just off the dual carriageway, this little gem is an ideal stopover for a night, or a good base for a few days holiday in the locality.
I stayed here as a party of 12, all on a little getaway for the weekend as part of a 40th birthday celebration. From the first contact with the hotel ... ...left for home, the experience overall was wonderful.
I spoke with a girl from South Africa and managed to blag my way into a further discount asides from the one I already had .. due to the few words I spoke in afrikaans!
When I eventually arrived at the hotel, I was greeted warmly by the friendly staff at the reservation desk. The foyer/desk has a number of brochures and leaflets detailing all the local sights and amenities that you might like ...

Fantastic lakeside hotel!
Review of Killyhevlin Hotel, Enniskillen by
seamusquinn
Advantages: Location and overall service was suberb!
Disadvantages: No ciggerate machine
Stayed in this hotel for a two night break and it was suberb! Great accomodation, food and service. The hotel has a stunning setting overlooking scenic Lough Erne. We really enjoyed relaxing in the outdoor hot tub. Overall I would class this hotel as an excellent 4 star hotel!
The hotel is located very close to enniskillen which mad it very accessible to all the restaurants and pubs of enniskillen. The room we had was very modern with a large plasma ... ...which was an extra cost but well worth it. The next time I come back all being well I would hope to try one of the hotel's spa treatments. All in all this is a fantastic hotel with my total approval! Thanks to the killyhvelin for making our stay such a pleasure! A +++++ ...

Green Gate, Ardara
Review of Green Gate, Ardara by
colepa
Advantages: Tranquil, lovely scenery, fantastic picnic spot, informal
Disadvantages: Little in way of entertainment locally for those who need it
My wife and I have just stayed for 2 nights at this B&B.
This is a place that you will either hate and wish to run away or, as we found, you will be delighted by the accommodation and location. The accommodation consists of restored outbuilding similar to crofts/bothies with either thatched or slate rooves. These are adjacent to the owner's cottage.
The property is situated about a mile "above" Ardara up a narrow, quiet road ascending a rocky hill ... ...is guaranteed. No television, radio or other noise intrudes. The view to the Atlantic will enchant and the number and variety of small birds will delight.
Our stone-walled building had a large bedroom/sitting room. Bnkets, curtains and cushion covers were woven on a loom in traditional colours in the village. Excellent lighting over the bed-head made reading easy.
A door led to a large bathroom, with toilet, bidet, washbasin with good shaving light ...

OAK WOOD ARMS HOTEL SHANNON
Review of Oak Wood Arms Hotel, Shannon by
poshtroika
Advantages: Very good Hotel, great service
Disadvantages: In the wrong place.
Just back from a weekend Jaunt to Ireland. We flew Ryanair Eastmidlands to Shannon, £38 return (No hold luggage and online checkin).
We booked the Oakwood Arms at Shannon, this was mainly as our return flight was 09:30 Monday morning and we did not want to get up early to travel.
We booked it thru LATEROOMS.COM for 85 Euros a night for Double room with Buffet Breakfast.
Ireland seems to be pricey for Hotels, so this was not too bad (We do cheaper ... ...Car so after picking that up it was just a 10 min Drive into Shannon and the Hotel.
First Impressions were very good, better than most of the reviews we had read.
Its a low level building on the edge of Shannon, not that there's much in the middle of Shannon, just seems to be a Housing Estate.
Checkin looks very smart and professional, we were checked in in just a few minutes, all was explained Breakfast Times, location of Restaurant and Sophies ...

Nice, nice, nice
Review of Minella, Clonmel by
AnnaJo57
Advantages: clean, pleasant, good parking
Disadvantages: not quite what you expect from the images on the website
We stayed here on days 3-5 of our Honeymoon in August last year, and having just been staying in 5 star luxury in Dublin, we were a little let down to be honest.
The image used on the website is of the hotel, but from where you come in on the main road you don't see it as it's at the rear of the building. From the road, it's a clean, well presented but quite standard hotel.
We paid extra to get a balcony but, as you could see down three storeys ... ...on it for more than ten seconds. Otherwise, the room was nice, the bed was so comfortable and the bathroom was good too, all in all, very nice.
The breakfast was reasonable too, we ate downstairs (no room service), but mostly ate out in Clonmel.
We would go back, but wouldn't bother with the balcony again! ...
