Nice surroundings, too steamy at night
Advantages: Central location, loads of local attractions Disadvantages: Rooms a little outdated. Modernisation needed
This hotel is one of a number around the small Village of Bunratty, mid way between Ennis and Limerick, with Shannon Airport being located just 8 miles from here.
Just off the dual carriageway, this little gem is an ideal stopover for a night, or a good base for a few days holiday in the locality.
I stayed here as a party of 12, all on a little getaway for the weekend as part of a 40th birthday celebration. From the first contact with the hotel ... ...left for home, the experience overall was wonderful.
I spoke with a girl from South Africa and managed to blag my way into a further discount asides from the one I already had .. due to the few words I spoke in afrikaans!
When I eventually arrived at the hotel, I was greeted warmly by the friendly staff at the reservation desk. The foyer/desk has a number of brochures and leaflets detailing all the local sights and amenities that you might like ...

OAK WOOD ARMS HOTEL SHANNON
Advantages: Very good Hotel, great service Disadvantages: In the wrong place.
Just back from a weekend Jaunt to Ireland. We flew Ryanair Eastmidlands to Shannon, £38 return (No hold luggage and online checkin).
We booked the Oakwood Arms at Shannon, this was mainly as our return flight was 09:30 Monday morning and we did not want to get up early to travel.
We booked it thru LATEROOMS.COM for 85 Euros a night for Double room with Buffet Breakfast.
Ireland seems to be pricey for Hotels, so this was not too bad (We do cheaper ... ...Car so after picking that up it was just a 10 min Drive into Shannon and the Hotel.
First Impressions were very good, better than most of the reviews we had read.
Its a low level building on the edge of Shannon, not that there's much in the middle of Shannon, just seems to be a Housing Estate.
Checkin looks very smart and professional, we were checked in in just a few minutes, all was explained Breakfast Times, location of Restaurant and Sophies ...

Templegate Hotel, Ennis
Advantages: Not too big, Friendly and nicely situated Disadvantages: Busy
The Templegate Hotel is situated in the centre of the beautiful town of Ennis, Co. Clare. Ennis is in the west of Ireland and one of the most beautiful towns you could visit.
I had my wedding reception in this hotel so I have some good memories of it (despite being separated for my husband).
The Templegate is not a huge hotel as it only has 70 bedrooms. But it does have a bit of a history. The hotel was built on the site of the Convent of Mercy ... ...does not seem very obvious until you get inside the hotel, but I will tell you more about that later. Before the hotel was a convent it was two houses that belonged to a Charles O’Connell, cousin of Daniel O'Connell a predominant political leader in Ireland at the beginning of the 19th century. Acorring to Templegate hotel he visited the area often.
The hotel itself is in the heart of the town. It has the tourist information and Ennis museum next ...

Two Star Mediocrity at 4 star prices,Killyhevlin
Advantages: None Disadvantages: Overpriced,mis-classiffied, mediocre
...this review helpful
Booked the killyhevlin because it claimed to be a four star hotel. What a let down. The Killyhevlin is tatty, outdated hotel. The foyer was a warning , adorned as it was with fruit machines! The carpet in the wing in which our room was situated was stained and dirty. The room was poorly furnished with scratched and damaged cheap furniture that would have looked cheap even when it was new, which I'm guessing was in the 80's. The ... ...there.
All in all the Killyhevlin is a downbeat 2 star roadhouse/motel badly in need of modernization and a damm good cleaning and certainly desperatley in need of some trained professional waiting staff. If you want to pay £70 per person per night sharing for mediocrity and a "couldn't give a care" attitude, then this is the place for you.
The hotel has been given 4 stars by the Northern Ireland Tourist Board, either their inspector is related ...

Travelodge (not quite next to) Dublin Airport Ballymun
Advantages: cheap, clean, comfortable, what you would expect Disadvantages: not that close to the airport, receptionist ignored us
...decorated in quite a generic Travelodge way. I have stayed in other Travelodge hotels and they all seem to have the same room décor. There were two large mirrors on the wall, a desk, a table and chair, a large wardrobe, three bedside tables and bed side lights. The room was painted a cream colour and had cream coloured curtains and the colour made the room look very light and clean. There was some pictures on the wall which seemed a nice touch too, ... ...was a flat screen tv on the desk, wonderfully positioned so that we could watch tv in bed! There was also a mini kettle, two cups and a selection of tea and coffee in the room, which was a nice touch as we definitely needed some coffee to get us going when we got up early the next morning. The bed was really comfy and had a nice, firm mattress. The only problem I had with our nights sleep was that we could hear noise from the street outside as we ...
