Islander Resort Hotel, Gold Coast MC

...This is a nice, comfortable 4 star hotel. It is very centrally located in the resort of Cala Galdana so if you like to people watch then get a sea view room and watch the world go by. In fact only get a seaview room because the rooms at the rear of the hotel are overlooked by a steep rock strewn cliff which casts a shadow all day. The resort is set in a beautiful cove with a wide cresent-shaped beach. The water as a consequence is very warm and calm. The cove is flanked on each side by cliffs that can be climbed quite easily to get a great view of the resort below. If you carry on in either direction a 40 minute walk will get you to the next coves along this southern coast of the island. ...We stayed here in May 06, which perhaps was not the best choice as there was building work going on in the hotel the first week and the pool was was closed the second week for more building work. There was also a new building being constructed across the road! Have been back to Broadbeach this year (not to the Phoenician) and all building work seems to be complete. The resort is well situated with the main restaurant area of Broadbeach around it. The Oasis shopping centre is across the road, and a monorail connects with Conrad Jupiters hotel/casino (didn't make use of the casino but they do have an excellent show there). However it is a short walk from the beach. Our room was at the Oasis end of the resort and had three balconies. It was a very good size with combined lounge/dining room/kitchen, bedroom and bathroom. ...Apart from the weather sometimes being a bit dodgy this place is the business. We stayed on the West Coast (Gold Coast) at the Tropical Escape hotel. It was our honeymoon and we could not have chosen a better place. It is a three star hotel and fairly small with 50 rooms but with breathtaking decor, they got their ideas from a top hotel in Miami. We were on all-inclusive so the food and drink flowed for at least 12 hours a day and we both put on a stone in weight in two weeks. It was a last minute deal and we had £450 off the brochure price each, but we must have drunk that much in cocktails alone. The food was good, but not comparable to a resort we stayed at in the Dominican Republic. (Another story) The locals are really friendly and even the street sellers don't hassle you. If you give them a polite 'no thanks' then they leave... Read review
