The isle of wight is an island about 147 square miles of off portsmouth and is very easy to get to. You can reach this byship,car-ferry,hovercraft and hydrofoil services. There is an excellent bus service that links most of the areas and coach tours to chief centres that have interest. The accomodation is varied and you have top of the range or lower scaled. There are also holiday camps and caravan sites. Journey around and explore. Ryde has amusements, very good swimming and a golf club. Ryde overlooks the solent waters and this is where you enbark from the hovercraft. You have a good information centre at The Esplanade,so pick up your maps etc here. Venture on and you will get to sandown. Good angling here from the pier and boats(bass, whitinggrey mullet and conger).Entertainment good with summer shows, golf again a museum and of course sand. Shanklin is yet another area for anglingand has a club here you will find plaice. Tastes loverly from the cafes as it is so fresh.(prices reasonable.) Moving on further- Ventor next-Angling again.Beach is more sand and shingle this time. Here they usually hold a carnival in mid-august. On the move again-Yarmouth now. This is a small town mentioned in the Doomsday Book as "Ermud". here you will find alot of history. I can't finish without a final mention of alum bay. Here you can collect sands yourself and make gifts up from them. Also a mention of Blackgangchine. This was once a place for smugglers. Now it is a model village, maze and water garden plus more.Over the years however it has slowly fell into the sea at the cliff edge. They have been slowly moving things back and trying to save it. It is a must for children and adults alike. Do bring your own food etc as prices in the cafes are a little steep. The isle of wight is a very good place to bring the family but is hilly in places so not always good for disabled.
