In Stockport at my training session for this summer, we had tests every morning on the day before’s lessons. One question asked for the definition of “vertical integration” within a travel industry context. The answer? When a company has every part of the holiday package in-house. JMC is quite proud of being a vertically integrated company, but they couldn’t be one without this, their own airline. I didn’t fly to resort with JMC since they didn’t have 15 spare seats on the day we had to go, but I did make my return journey with them on Friday night.
Check in in Mahon was swift and simple, with the maximum possible number of desks open. My luggage weighed in at 19 kg (the lightest it’s ever been), just under the quite strictly enforced 20 kg limit. I wasn’t given a choice of window or aisle seat, but that was because the majority of people get free pre-booked seats in the UK. My seat was booked by my resort office about 2 weeks before I came home (and my ticket, incidentally, written out by hand 10 mins before I went to check in) and so I was simply allocated any available space on the plane.
My flight, the 8.35 Mahon-Manchester and for once it boarded early. JMC are no worse than any other charter airline for delays, but I know that it can feel like that if yours is the one plane that week that’s delayed. When there are delays, the company do try to make it as bearable as possible though. In Menorca at least you’ll find a group of Kids’ reps in the airport at all times to entertain the little ones, and when there is a delay, this number can triple in a matter of hours to try and keep the guests happy. Anyway, the flight was on time and we were soon soaring 7 miles above ground.
The flight took about 2 and a half hours, but it seemed to pass pretty quickly. There were more TV screens in the cabin than I’ve ever seen before, all showing Friends, Alistair McGowan’s Big Impressions and cartoons. There are also various music programs available through the headsets. These are £4 each, but if you have normal ones you can simply buy an adapter for £1. For the record, MyTravel headphones also work on JMC planes…….
The food was picnic style and consisted of a cheese and tomato ciabatta sandwich, a pack of Mini cheddars and a Time Out, all of which, handily, was vegetarian. For once I ate everything provided, and shock horror, it actually tasted nice. In the picnic bag were an un-needed cutlery set and, my favourite, the lemon soaked paper napkins. Memories of the Hitch Hiker’s Guide…. Free tea, coffee and squash were available, with other drinks available from the bar. My one main gripe in this area is that the stewardesses seemed more interested in selling than sticking to their not serving intoxicated guests any more booze policy. The family in front were merry when they got on board, and rolling drunk by the end of the trip, which doesn’t make for a peaceful flight.
In terms of Health and Safety, the usual escape procedure video was followed by 5 mins of Mr Motivator going through some DVT-prevention exercises. These were also featured in the in-flight magazine. The legroom seemed incredibly stingy, and it’s not like I’m tall. The air also seemed rather iffy, and despite my 40 cent 1.5 l bottle of water, my mouth still felt dry for most of the flight. The descent seemed to take an unusually long time meaning more pain than usual for my darling little ears, but surprisingly, 24 hours later they’ve sorted themselves out.
Extra points:
The onboard shop features perfume, chocolate and gifts, but on EU flights they can’t carry alcohol or tobacco even though it’s in their in-flight magazine.
The majority of guests are families, so expect the odd screaming kid, and at least 75% will be on JMC package holidays, although we also have flight only, Select holidays and beach villa guests.
The magazine itself changes seasonally, so you’ll probably get the same issue going as coming. The summer one isn’t that bad as airline magazines go, with interviews with Claire Sweeny and Samuel L Jackson, a report on school reunions and an article featuring new high-tech gizmos among other things.
On board you will be offered a CSQ (customer service questionnaire). If your rep has mentioned anything about ticking excellent during your holiday, then this is the place to do it. It’s a long ‘un, but there’s a chance to win £1000 of JMC vouchers, and more importantly give your feedback on your holiday. Just remember that what you tick for reps and kids’ clubs dictates whether or not we get proper lunch breaks that month…..
Mandy, one of our air hostesses, deserves a special mention. She was really friendly and perky, but more importantly incredibly efficient at sorting out not only her rows but also those nearby whose attendants weren’t quite so attending.
You can pre-book a range of facilities and extras, from extra legroom seats to champagne and special meals (vegetarian, vegan, diabetic, children’s and so on). These can be arranged when you book or afterwards by phoning the airline direct.
With most package holidays you don’t get a choice of airline, but if you have a second home somewhere served by the airline, I have no problem recommending them. They fly to all the packagey destinations – the Balearics, mainland Spain, Portugal, Greece and the islands, Tunisia and so on – plus some places further afield. You can book online at jmc.com, over the phone or through a travel agent. For next year due to an up-coming rebranding, they’ll be known as Thomas Cook airlines, but I’ve been assured that the service and quality will remain – it’s only the colour of the plane that’s changing from green (and if anyone wants to know why JMC is green, just ask) to a more summery blue and yellow combo. Don’t let all the other ops’ horror stories put you off – give them a try and you might be pleasantly surprised.
Advantages: That they had a problem and let us fly with monarch on the way there!! Disadvantages: Food, unhelpful staff, cramped conditions
...to Florida last year and JMC was the company we chose. I had never been abroad before let alone on a plane and, as you can imagine very nervous. To top things off i was six months pregnant and not looking forward to the seven hour flight.
When we arrived at Gatwick at around six thirty (am) we went straight over to check in. As we arrived at the check in desk a member of JMC staff informed us there was a problem with our plane and we had two choices, ... ...holiday.
Not only is it the attitudes of the staff but the whole flight experience has put me off flying with JMC ever again. Its something i will never forget. It will be a long time before i ever step foot inside a plane again after this experience. ...

...(normally a free service with JMC I believe). The staff at Cardiff airport were very helpful and accommodating. THE FLIGHT Upon boarding the plane, an Airbus A320, we found we were on the very last seats at the back of the plane (oh well I suppose we were in good company with the black box), the leg room was very poor, for my 6'2" partner and I had to swap seats with my daughter as mine was broken, and probably would not have withstood my light, ... ...not check in, as the JMC rep could not tell us either when the check-in desk would be open, or where we would be checking in. I have covered this under a separate op on Lanarca airport. The staff were disorganised, and had a total lack of knowledge and information, they knew as much, if not less than the customers. We spent nearly two hours waiting to check in, and were then told which desks it would be, wrong again. Arrival at the departure lounge ...

...back from Ibiza on a JMC flight into Gatwick Airport and after reading other opinions in this category l must admit my experiences seem to go some what against the grain of popular opinion!! Finding the JMC zone in Gatwick was incredibly easy - there was easily 10 to 15 check-in desks flying to various destinations over the world. Pre-bookable seats were available at a nominal charge.
BOARDING - We rushed to the departure gate - literally ran all the way as we thought we were in danger of missing our flight. FOOLS!! We had plenty of time in the departure lounge. My partner David was very angry as he smokes and could have had ...

...surely... or will I?!
JMC are a collection of different companies, merged in the recent past, and are now collectively under the JMC umbrella. JMC is now a very large company, and is "unravelling the package holiday piece by piece" according to the adverts. Having been slated on Watchdog and that winking Anne Robinson, I must say I can only write about the airline how good or bad it is, and not the company as a whole… although the health and ... ...sleep, only to find that JMC had made a cock-up somewhere along the line, and all the people flying with them had to stand in one place and wait for their flight to be called up for a check-in number. It was very hot outside but that was the only place for us to queue , so we did and got hot. When we eventually decided to gain the ‘f*ck it, let’s go in’ attitude, we stood around for a little bit longer and then queued for our check-in ...

...time I have flown with JMC and having read other opinions before going I was surprised at the quality of service I received. I didn't have high expectations, after all JMC airlines are only a package operator not a real commercial airline, but in comparison to other package flights I've had they were excellent. ~~~ Check In ~~~ I was very impressed with the JMC check in service at Gatwick, to be honest I've never seen a better system in operation ... ...JMC check in desks which were situated together in a cordoned off area. Before queuing for a desk a JMC staff member looks at your tickets and tells you which desk to go to. The desks are all checking people in from different flights so queuing is minimised. When we booked the holiday the travel agent asked if we wanted to pre-book our seats, as there was a charge for this I declined. The travel agent advised me that without pre-booking we may end ...

Picking a holiday is hard enough, where when how ..you then have to make the choice of which company ... and the price you want to pay …so is JMC worth all your hard earned money …..
I have to say that is a hard question to answer. I will tell my tale ….
We arrived at Gatwick a little early so that we would have the opportunity to have a large brunch and the chance to do some tax free shopping, before our flight to Turkey.
On arrival, we were advised that our flight which had been due to leave at 2pm had been delayed until 5.30pm..hmmm however a rep was waiting with a £5.00 voucher for each in the group.
We boarded at 4.30 pm and took off at 5pm .The flight was uneventfully. The seats were standard, and the food was hot. I have to say that I was disappointed to learn that we were not to receive any ...

Advantages: We had a good holiday all told Disadvantages: see text
Having just returned from a "bargain" break with JMC holidays I would firstly like to say yes we did overall have a very good holiday once we were away from having any thing actually do with this company.
JMC's slogan is unwrapping the packaged holiday, to be honest I could not see any difference in the package they offer to any other tour operators.Apart from lack of customer care.
My holiday was booked and paid for one week prior to departure. The party consisted of myself and my 3 year old daughter who JMC classed as an adult as I had paid the adult price for her, hence such things as tickets on departure, transfer to the resort and pre booking of airline seats were all at adult prices for both of us.
My holiday price ( per person) was broken down as such
Basic holiday price £109
Tickets ...

What can I say? JMC where are you? well this company is it invisable or something? I will explain....
My eldest daughter(laura) and myself had decided on one of thoose cheap package holidays. We found what we thought a bargain, and in a sense it was except for the tour company.
The holiday arrangemets started off ok,all was well with the tickets arriving and the coach to the airport. From then on though it was no go for jmc...
jmc firstly could not be found at the luton airport. we had been told to collect our tickets from the jmc desk reception as it was a cheap last minute booking. After numerous tanoys and only half a hour to
our flight, we were getting very worried that we were not going to get this holiday. We began to think of where we could get any information on what was going on.
Next door to the jmc office was ...
