Jacksons looks nothing special from the outside. It could be compared to a Wetherspoons, but when you get inside you will be amazed by the space. (And there is more atmosphere than at Wetherspoons). There are lots of tables outside if the weathers good enough, but these quickly get used up by the 'after-work' crowd in summer. The first eating area inside is fairly big, but there is bigger space in the room behind that also has pool tables. There is more space downstairs, but this is mainly used to be turned into a club later on at night.
The food is everything you would usually expect to get from a bar: chicken, steak, scampi, pies and fish and chips. But it is not processed food like you often get in English pub chains. They also do some dishes that are made interesting by the sauces they put on them. There are also a daily list of specials available that can be a bit different, but are still good value.
As I said previously there is alot of space but if you want to eat at around 6.00, you are going to have to fight for a table in the summer. I think its because this place seems to cater for everyone, students, backpackers, workers.....I think its because you are paying reasonable prices to eat somewhere that has a good, relaxed atmosphere and you feel like you are eating somewhere quite nice, but very cheaply. It would work out to be an average of about £5 per meal I should think and drinks are averagely priced too.
Its a good place to go to start the night off and have dinner, a few drinks and a game of pool, the location also makes it easy to go to other bars and pubs afterwards aswell.
