Holiday Inn Mobay
Advantages: Wonderful, friendy, fun hotel Disadvantages: cold disco
Tired and bad tempered after our arrival at the airport after a much delayed flight to Jamaica seemed worth all the hassle when we were cheerfully greeted at this wonderful hotel. The reception and indeed the whole of the welcoming ground floor of the main hotel is open sided with a lovely breeze coming straight through. There are a few restaurants in which to eat, the main self service buffet hall which is replenished with fresh goods regularly ... ...bar on the beach and the fish restaurant. There was also a barbeque evening during our stay. There are events for the children and for adults and the hotel really puts an effort into entertainment day and night. This hotel has a pool bar, the main bar, piano bar and a disco. The only fault for me is that the air conditioning is way too cold in the disco and really kills the atmosphere. I found the staff to be incredibly friendly and if you catch ...

Grand facilities at the 'Grande'
Advantages: Lots of facilities and good choice of restaurants Disadvantages: Rooms are more basic than you'd probably expected
...The hotel:
The Sunset Jamaica Grande is a hotel in the 'Sunset' group of hotels. The hotel is the largest of the three in the group and is rated as a 4 star standard. The hotel is made up of one main building and two tower blocks which are very easy to spot from a distance due to their bright yellow colour! Location:
The hotel sits on the edge of the bay and in a prime position directly on the beach which is also private to hotel guests. The hotel ... ...Bay airport. Across from the hotel in the opposite bay is where all the cruise ships dock - far enough away for there to be any noise disruption but, close enough to watch them go by.
First impressions:
I knew what it looked like from looking at it on the internet and from pictures in brochures so I knew what to expect in terms of the building exterior but, it really does hit you how big the hotel is as you pull up. The lobby is very large with ...

Sandals Royal Caribbean
Advantages: Everything!! Disadvantages: Long flight (but worth it)
...airport and directed to the Sandals private lounge to await our transfer to the hotel. The lounge was very nicely furnished with an array of free, self-service drinks - alcoholic and soft, and very polite, friendly, smiling staff.
After short wait we were taken to our air conditioned minibus by the Redcaps (airport porters who take care of all your luggage). A brief 15 minute journey later we arrived at The Royal, and were taken aback at how luxurious ... ...the restaurants at the Mobay Sandals nearby, there is a free bus that shuttles day and night and only takes 10 mins. We ate to excess, and tried every restaurant whilst there. We had wonderful steaks, fresh seafood, japanese, thai, italian etc but as we had paid 3,800 we think we deserved to pig out a little!
There is also a beach grill which is open 24 hrs and serves jerk chicken, burgers, jamaican patties, pizza, fries and the like. There were ...

Loved the Riu Tropical Bay
Advantages: beach, food, people Disadvantages: none
I stayed at the Riu Tropical Bay in April 2008 for two weeks with my boyfriend.
I absolutely adored the hotel and can hardly fault it at all. It had everything I would want from a holiday; gorgeous weather, wide sandy beaches, delicious food, yummy cocktails and much more! The staff and entertainment were exceptional. The staff were unbelievably energetic and lively, despite the ridiculously long hours that they worked. They would always try and ... ...The sister hotel Riu Negril is just down the beach. I stayed at this hotel when I came to Negril with my family, and to be honest there wasn't much difference between them, although I think that over the summer the Riu Tropical Bay has been upgraded to a palace, so perhaps that is the nicer of the two now. I can't really think of anything negative about Jamaica or the hotel. We were initially put into a room that had a funny smell, but as I've already ...
