How to reach Jambi?
There is no an international airport in Jambi. It means, international visitors cannot have a flight directly to Jambi, but from other international airports, such as Polonia Medan (the airport in North Sumatra), Bandara Sukarno-Hatta (the airport in Jakarta – Java).
Visiting Jambi via Singapore is possible, too, and it does not take much time of yours. It takes about 5 or 6 hours to reach Jambi by ship (the route is Singapore – Batam – Jambi).
Visiting Jambi via Jakarta is a good idea, too. After arriving at Jakarta, you can continue your flight to Jambi. The airfare is not expensive – it is about Rp 300,000 or GBP20,69 (GBP1 = Rp14,500). It takes you only about 45 minutes. And visiting Jambi from Jakarta by bus is not a good idea. It takes you about 24 hours to reach Jambi, and it costs you about Rp 200,000 or GBP13,80 for your bus-ticket!
How is about from Medan? The bad news is that there are no flights from Medan to Jambi. However, starting your travelling from Medan could be a nice idea if your main destination is not Jambi. After visiting tourism areas in North Sumatra (such as: Berastagi – a mountainous and cool area with cool sight-viewings, Lake Toba), you could continue your travelling to West Sumatra (such as: Bukit Tinggi, and Padang) by bus. Then, you could visit Jambi via West Sumatra by bus. It takes about 12 or 14 hours normally.
Tourism Objects
Frankly telling you, nothing special to see in Jambi City (you should differ the terms of Jambi City and Jambi Province). However, there is a Candi, called Candi Muara Jambi, an ancient Buddhism building / ancient temple which was build resembling with Candi Borobudur (in Java).
The zoo in Jambi City is the worst one! The zoo management is not good enough. The collection of animals is not comparable with the other zoos. Really a very poor one! By the way, if you love visiting zoos and seeing wild animals of Indonesia, you are suggested to visit the zoo in Bukit Tinggi, West Sumatra. However, I think Safari Park in Jakarta. In this park, all animals are at large!
Though the zoo in Jambi city is poor, you still could enjoy the natural living of wild animals in Kerinci Seblat, a national park. To reach the national park, it takes about 7 hours from Jambi city by bus. There are about 129 species of birds, 36 mammalians (24 kinds of them are protected), 10 species of reptiles. 6 species of amphibians, and 8 species of primates.
About 400 floras cover the peaceful land as the natural ornaments. Tigers, elephants, rhinos are the hosts. So, be careful!
The People
I think that the people in Jambi city are really friendly and peace-keepers. You might hear or read by some media that Indonesia is not a nice place to visit as its people are in disordered condition, though the rumor is not true at all – especially the situation in Jambi Province – I guarantee that they are going to give you a friendly welcome.
By the way, the natives in Jambi are Malayu and Anak Suku Dalam. And certainly there are many tribes living in this province.
Anak Suku Dalam tribe’s living is really interesting. Most of them prefer living by the forests and mountainous areas with their traditional style of life - though our government has tried hard to attract and teach them to live normally like us. Who know that you are going to meet them on your journey? They are not dangerous at all.
The Foods
Do you eat Indonesian foods or Chinese foods? Yes, only those kinds of foods are easy to find in Jambi.
There is only one Bakery in the city. I think you should prepare your instant foods – LOL.
Well, I think that’s all that I could describe here in general. And certainly you are going to see more, much more than I have described here.
I would recommend you to visit Jambi Province, as there are some interesting tourism objects to visit with low living costs.

Advantages: The situation is peace, and you can enjoy nice sightseeing Disadvantages: None
Welcome to SumatraSumatra, one of Republic Indonesia's big island, is a nice island to make jurney. The journey should be started from Medan (North Sumatra), Bukit Tinggi (West Sumatra), Jambi, Palembang and then Java, Bali, etc.
I encourage you to start from Medan, the province capital city, because there are a lot of tourism spots in North Sumatra. Another most important reason is the only one international flight port in Sumatra is found in Medan. It is called Polonia.
In Medan you can visit national museums. For night entertainment, you can visit pubs or discotheque.
What are other tourism spots to visit then ? You can visit Bukit Lawang, about 4 hours drive by bus or car (I have writen a short information about Bukit Lawang in CIAO, too). You must spend a day for the trip.
Or you have the choice to visit Berastagi ...
Advantages: You can paragliding here Disadvantages: carreful with the local
Lake singkarak is the one of four lake in west sumatra. that not include lake kerinci that half is at west sumatra region and the other half is in jambi region. Lake Singkarak is in the side ways to Solok and the way to "Lintas Sumatra". That connect all province in Sumatra. So from Aceh to Lampung is connected by this road. And the lake have a beautiful water that you can swim here. and you can paragliding from the hill that sorrounding this lake. If you go here you'd better be carreful. So you dont miscomunicate with the locals. The transportation to and from here is available from 7.00 am to 6.00 pm. from Bukittinggi its take about 1.30 hours to go there. ...
