Jameos Del Agua

Advantages: Stunning attraction beautifully designed and a pleasure to see
Disadvantages: No good for those with walking difficulties

...from a collapsed lava tunnel, Jameos del Agua is an amazing site to behold. As you descend the first set of stairs into a bar area you will already be in awe of the place. On the next level down you will find an undergound lake boasting tiny blind white albino crabs that are usually found many miles below sea level. As you skirt this lake the sun shines in through gaps in the lava and creates a magical atmosphere. You can then ascend the steps on ...
...James Bond type setting. Here is a beautiful swimming pool set into stunning gardens and designed especially for the King of Spain. (don't take your swimming trunks only Juan Carlos himself is allowed to swim here!!) Off from the pool area is a natural auditorium formed in the lava where it s reported that Pavarotti has performed. Upon ascending yet more steps you will come across a Volcanolgy museum. This interesting area provides some insight into ... more

See it once

Advantages: low cost, interesting and beautiful
Disadvantages: Auditorium is closed, exhibits are a bit tired.

Jameos is stunning, the crabs are cool and the volcano museum is interesting. The value for money is good, however there were a couple of small draw backs. The first was the pool, stunning but a shame that we couldn't just dip a foot or two in and enjoy it. The second was that the auditorium is currenlty closed for a referb. The tourist board don't seem to know when it is reopening. Finally, the volcano museum was slightly tired when I visited last ...

Going down, down...deeper and down

Advantages: Interesting and informative tour of volcanic lava tunnels and caverns. Unspoilt attraction developed to be in harmony with environment. Stunning optical illusion.
Disadvantages: Hard to get to without transportation. Not suitable for very young, elderly or infirm. No catering outlet or much in the way of onsite facilities.

via the ring road. Follow the LZ1 towards Órzola, and before getting to Órzola, you will see a sign that indicating the way to La Cueva de los Verdes. You can join an organised coach tour, but most of the organised tours will be for a full day and will include most of the other attractions in the north of the island. For example, you could join a full day tour at an approximate cost of 50? (15? for children) and see La Cueva de Los Verdes, Jameos del Agua, Mirador del Río, Jardin de Cactus and Fundación César Manrique. Tours can be easily booked in any of the main resorts on the island. Indeed, it is difficult to avoid finding out about any tours in Lanzarote as there are tour touts handing out leaflets in all the major resorts. ~~ More details ~~ The cost of entry to La Cueva de los Verdes is 8.00? per person. Advantages: Scenery, Sea, Water sports, people, EVERYTHING
Disadvantages: having to get the plane home : - (

't seem fazed at all. A couple of times I braced myself for falling over the edge. Most of the craters you pass are extinct and some have lain dormant for years, so there isn't any fear of an immediate eruption, or so we were told. There was an English speaking tour guide that took us through the surroundings, it was a fantastic trip and a must see when you visit Lanzarote the landscape is truly amazing and hard to put into words. The park is open from 10.00 to 6.00pm every day. ~ Jameos del Agua ~ We visited this cave system by car as it is to the North of the Island, there were loads of coaches of people and cars and is really popular with tourists, we accidentally stumbled into the EXIT of the place and therefore got in free, although we had to walk from the back to the front but it saved us some Euro, although it only costs ...
