Jardin de Cactus, Lanzarote

... Unfortunately my mam doesn't share the same enthusiasm as me where cacti are concerned! That's why I was so surprised that while we were on holiday in Lanzarote, my parents said we could go to Jardin de Cactus. To tell the truth, they only said yes because (i) it was on the way to where they ... Read review

Pretty, Prickly Cacti

Advantages: Really colourful and interesting
Disadvantages: None

...said we could go to Jardin de Cactus. To tell the truth, they only said yes because (i) it was on the way to where they wanted to go and (ii) I wouldn't stop going on about it!
Outside, there is a huge cactus, that you can see from quite a way off. As you get close to it you can see that it isn't real but it makes some excellent photos!
Although my parents don't particularly like cacti, they found that they really enjoyed our visit. ...
...most things on the island!) It costs 5 Euro's (approximately £3.50) each to get in (and it's free for under 10's!!) Included in the price of each ticket is a free drink, which can be redeemed at the pleasant little bar that's there.
There are almost 1,400 species of cacti in the garden (not that I counted them, I just took the time to read our visitors guide!) Some of them are quite pretty with colourful flowers blooming from them. I can't ... more

Nice Place

Advantages: Lots of different cactus to see
Disadvantages: Not pram friendly.

...place to visit. The Jardin De Cactus was designed by Cesar Manrique, who also has an amazing house in Lanzarote which is also well worth a visit. It's quite a small place, but there are so many different types of cactus, I really didn't know they all existed! Ranging from really massive ones that tower above your head, to tiny little ones which have quite amusing (to my husband anyway who has a childish mind) shapes. It's also a nice place to shelter ...
...wind in Lanzarote is unbelieveable. The pathways are all made from volcanic rock and there are various different levels to wander around to get different views of the garden, and there are also quite a few steps here and there, so if you have children in buggies or prams, it is quite difficult to get around, as we found out. My husband was able to wander up and down the slopes and steps etc, while I was stood holding the pram. A plus point is that ...

Jardin de cactus

Advantages: in expensive and varied
Disadvantages: don't touch!

This is not a big place, but it is a nice place to go for a couple of hours. The highlights for us were enjoying a nice lunch over the garden, and taking pictures of the weird cactus. We wanted to pick up a catus to take home with us, but were disappointed to find the gift shop was not well stocked at all. Around the island there are wild cactus with large berry type things growing on them, which drop when they go yellow. Don't pick one up! They ...

Out and About in Lanzarote

Advantages: reasonable prices, lovely weather, short journey from UK
Disadvantages: poor food, need own transport

definitely made his mark on the island .He was involved in many aspects of the planning and development of the island and you can see many of his sculptures dotted about plus his home with stylish rooms built into lava bubbles in the side of the volcano. Also worth a visit in this area is the surreal Jardin de Cactus. There's a large market on Sundays in Teguise , which was once the capital of Lanzarote and the architecture of this town is some of the oldest and most beautiful on the island. Here you can buy local craftwork, pottery and weaving and also African art . If you like being out on the water you can go saling from Puerto Calero or the up-market Rubicon Marina .There are trips in a glass-bottomed boat to look at life under the sea and regular ferry services to Fuertaventura. Eating out is a bit hit and miss we found. It's probably ...
