Advantages: Friendly, great campus and facilities Disadvantages: Not much in town
First of all, one question for many people when they hear you say that you're going to Loughborough University is 'Where's that!' Loughborough is situated in the county of Leicestershire, and is a short train ride away from Nottingham, Leicester and Derby. it is a small market town, known for the University.
In terms of the town, Loughborough is fairly small, and doesn't have much to offer in terms of shops. There are a few nationwide shops such as Top Shop and New Look, but not any where near the amount of shops that reside in Leicester or Nottingham. Being a student, I've found this quite useful, as it doesn't encourage you to go spending money that you haven't got on clothes, as there isn't really anywhere to shop!
There are a few clubs in Loughborough town; Echoes, Wild, Rain and Discotheque. These are all fairly small, and so ...
Advantages: good bus through from the train station, to town and to uni. Nice single room accommodation. Disadvantages: Far too sporty, Butler Court accommodation is appauling
I chose Loughborough Uni as my first choice because it was high on the league tables and close to my home. When I visited the people seemed friendly and the accommodation I saw was nice.

I had 3 choices to make for accommodation and this room was neither of my 3 choices. However, on the hope that I could change rooms when I arrived at uni I went ahead and moved into Butler Court during Fresher's Week. Biggest mistake of my life! It is so socially wrong to have to share a year of your life with a complete stranger, one of the most difficult years of your life as well when moving away from home for the first time and settling into a new routine, you need space to be on your own. During fresher's week my room mate didn't go ...
Advantages: Excellent sports facilities, Engineering department and Teaching standards. Disadvantages: The nightlife in Loughborough town doesn't compare to a big city.
I'm just coming to the end of my third year at Loughborough where I study Commercial Management and Quantity Surveying. My course is part of the Civil Engineering Faculty, which forms part of the University's Engineering Department.
My course is a four-year sandwich BSc Hons and I am sponsored throughout, basically, I get given a bursary of around £1,500 each year and I work for my sponsor in the summer. The third year is the sandwich year, which I am just about to complete, during this year I've been living and working in London.
One of Loughborough's great strengths is its strong ties with industry, most of the students on my course are sponsored, and this was set up by the University. The sponsors pay you good money when you're working for them and guarantee you a job when you finish your degree (which you don't have to take ...
