Beautiful temple complex

Advantages: monumental survival of Buddhist culture
Disadvantages: remote location in Java

Borobudur Temple is one of the biggest, most elaborate and well-preserved of Buddhist monuments in Asia. Seen from the air the huge complex is a three dimensional representation of a mandala. From the ground its hard to make out this intricate pattern as you travel around the levels, working upwards towards a terrace punctuated with huge stone stupas containing Buddhas.
