I was lucky enough to visit Sharm for free in March this year - one of the perks of being a travel agent is we occasionally get 'fam trips' which means we are taken to a destination and shown around numerous hotels and the sights so that we are able to sell it confidently when back home. These trips are really beneficial, and I think I certainly appreciate them more now I am self employed. So there was a group of about 10 of us and we visited about 6 hotels each day getting the full tour, camera and notebook in hand. I must admit the company we went with - Med Hotels - had a lot of clout in Sharm and we were treated like royalty wherever we went. In hindsight I suppose this may have given me a rose tinted view of the place as everything was done for us, we even got fastracked through the aiport avoiding the dreaded queue.

We booked via lastminute.com just 4 days before we went there - at £ 179 per person for 7 nights a real bargain. Included were:
- flight with Astraeus (charter airline) from and to Gatwick
- 7 nights accommodation incl. breakfast in the Ocean Bay Hotel
- transfer from and to the airport in SharmelSheikh
Travel insurance is included in our bank account arrangements, so we didn't need to buy. If you intend to go diving a lot, an extra insurance cover is advisable.
After the booking we got contacted by the travel agency ('Explorers' - specialist in diving holidays). The whole transaction went very smooth, no problems whatsoever. Two days before ...

On Thursday May 26th 2005, myself, my mum, my dad and my brother went on a family holiday to SharmElSheikh, Egypt. It was the first time we had been abroad for 4 years, the first time we had been on a plane for 4 years, the first time we had been to Africa - ever.
All my life I had dreamed of going to Egypt, mainly Cairo to see the Pyramids, as I had always wanted to become an archaeologist. I collected souveneirs from Museums and shops relating to Ancient Egypt, an amazing period in the worlds history filled with grand designs, architecture and beliefs. I collected a childrens magazine on Ancient Egypt and read up about the era in books both at home and at school. I was fascinated by everything I read and was determined from then on to visit the Great Pyramids at Giza, one seventh of the wonders of the Ancient World ...
