Advantages: Oldest city in world and lowest, too. Disadvantages: Very little remaining, unless you're a trained archaeologist
If you’re expecting to see really impressive archeological ruins in Jericho, you might be disappointed. After all, the walls came tumbling down, right? And you have to pay to get in. There is a shopping center with expensive tourist stuff – I’d give it a miss, but at least it’s airconditioned and you can cool down a little bit. Perhaps it would have been more interesting if I had had a tour guide and not just gone by myself. People are friendly enough ... ...explain various things about the town. Problem was, he was fairly insistent on taking me to a Muslim palace which was also built there. If you don’t like taking orders from taxi-drivers, then make your destination quite clear in advance.
