The only downside is that not all the rides are open - apparently because the Sultan can no longer afford to pay the wages of all the staff needed. Anyway, there's go-karting, a huge log flume, lots of waltzer type things, a magic carpet - all the usual stuff. Not a bad way to spend an evening in Brunei. The bonus is that there's a good food court where you can get some great stuff.
Although the amusement park is no longer free, it is still worth the trip. Not all of the rides are working but the ones that are still do manage to take your breath away. The prices for the rides are reasonable and although you can spend as much as you want, you could also go to the park with a budget and have a good time. If you decide to go to the park, I would recommend the drop, the rollercoaster and breakdance. Breakdance is a strenuous ride ... ...seems to be an eternity but if you manage to ride it without puking up, you will be held in great esteem by your friends forever.
While you are at the park, you should also make it a point to go watch the Dancing Fountain. It is a fountain that "dances" to music as well as having a laser show. It is a lot more interesting than it sounds and you will be amazed when you see it. ...

Advantages: Cheap, different, mad! Disadvantages: Not a whole lot to do
The Sultanate of Brunei is a mad old place, and no mistake. Firstly, (and most significantly for an Irishman) it is strictly Islam, and alcohol is not served anywhere. (You can bring in a bottle yourself, but it needs to be declared.) Having a crazy time in Brunei consists of playing pool in a coffee bar.
Or you could go to Jerudong Park. This is a huge amusement park which was built by the Sultam of Brunei as a gift to the people - entry and all rides are absolutely free. There is usually about 10 people in the entire (huge) park, so you get all the rollercoasters to yourself!
The Sultan has also built loads of five star hotels, which are all hugely over-staffed, and therefore excellent in terms of service. Ours - the Jerudong Park Hotel - cost 20 pounds per night, and we had a gorgeous courtyard swimming pool all to ourselves ...
Advantages: Beautiful tropical forests. Disadvantages: No booze, so no nightlife at all.
seem still to have fallen short, more people have heard of Brunei but still few wish to go.
I would say Brunei could be popular with a traveller who is looking for a country that is still very much untouched by tourism and who is not looking for big activity. However, dont be fooled it is not untouched by the western world.
You will still find McDonolds and Pizza Hut. Brunei has one very good mall in the center of town that stocks most brands of clothes, trainers, electrical goods but I dont't remember them being of any good or bad value. Every other shop in the mall seems to sell VCD's (the quality reflects in the price).
The most talked about place in Brunei is Jerudong Park, this is a theme park which was built for the sultans sons 21st birthday as a gift to the people, it was free to enter but rummor has it that a small ...

Advantages: Very affordable, Clean, Safe and beaches Disadvantages: Not so much nightlife available
but what we can offer is the relaxing type of holiday.
Brunei is lucky because we still have large parts of the country covered with the rainforest. We also have few beaches. There is also a very affordable trip to Ulu Temburong where you can see the virgin forest and observe the flora and fauna which most probably wont exist anywhere else.
The amazing Empire Hotel and Country Club which is strategically situated next to the Jerudong beach will make all your problems disappear alas for a few days you spend there. Again the hotel is not exceedingly expensive when compared with other 5 star hotel around the world. The golf course was also designed by Jack Nicklaus. And also few minutes from the hotel is our famous Theme park, Jerudong park. It is not free anymore but for a mere 5 brunei dollars that is equal to 2 pounds you can play all ...
