Jet2 is the latest in a line of budget airlines to operate out of British airports. The difference with this one is that it goes out of Leeds/Bradford airport, and for anyone living in West Yorkshire this is a Godsend. No more travelling over to Liverpool or Manchester-it's a quick journey to just North of Bradford and you're off! How to book...
Log onto the website- if you put Jet2 in you may be redirected to a site that looks as if it has nothing to do with Jet2, but it has- AIRKIOSK INTERNET RESERVATIONS.. The site is cheerful and colourful and simple to understand. There's a map of the British Isles with Leeds/Bradford marked, and lines going to the destinations that it serves/will serve. You can search for a flight by putting the name of your intended destination -it's a drop down menu so you only have to click on it. Booking up to
February 2004..if you can think that far advance! Just say which dates you want to go and return on, say how many adults and children its for and click on the little aeroplane..to search for a flight. The closest date to that chosen by you will come up, both for outward and return flights. It shows the number of the flight, the price of the flight, the time it departs from Leeds/Bradford and gets to the destinationThere's a little circle next to each of the flights and you choose one by clicking in the circle. Then press "continue".
The print does warn you that the price shown excludes airport tax and insurance. So when the price pops up on the screen, you don't fall over in horror. prices on the next page are inclusive of tax and insurance, and it shows the total price that you will have to pay for the whole party. If you want to go ahead with the booking, press "confirm". Then there's the usual credit card detail page and at teh end, you are told that an e-mail will be sent to your e-mail address to confirm the booking. The e-mail then acts as a receipt- and youtake it with you when checking in at Leeds/Bradford.
The actual trip..... Parking couldn't be easier- long and short stay are very close to the terminal. However, beware of the cost. Long term can only be chosen if you are going for more than 5 days. That's £25 (shich isn't really expansive). The sting comes if you are short term parking. £12 for the first 24 hours and £10 for each 24 hour period or part of after that. So if oyu're going for less than 5 days this can be a big bill. Perhaps a taxi might be better! Or get someone to give you a lift there! Or alternatively, go online to an Airport parking website and you can get a discount on this price. I only found out in time for the second trip that I'm taking from Leeds...and saved £6!!!
Check in with Jet2 is quick and easy. They do allocate seat numbers which is different to Easy jet, so you don't have to scramble onto the plane to get a good seat. You can ask for a window seat if you want one! Check in is an hour before take off, but if you want to look in the shops and have a drink, do it earlier, because the call to get on the plane comes about 20 minutes before take off...doesn't leave much time for that last G+T in the departure lounge if oyu want one.. There are steps to go down to the tarmac...Leeds is only a little airport and you have to walk across to the planes. I think there's a lift for disabled/aged passengers but there weren't any on the flight I took so I don't know how they'd fare. Getting up the steps at the other side might also be a problem if you're not very good on your feet.
The planes are new and have leather-type seats-not the tatty old cloth ones that you get on some smaller planes. And there was adequate room for shorties like us, but I'd imagine that if you were 6 foot+ the legroom might be a little squeezed. The hostesses are pleasant and helpful, and do the usual safety routine with a smile..but woe betide you if you are not paying attention!!!You'll get the stare!
Refreshments... You can buy a cup of tea, coffee or hot chololate from them...or opt for an alcoholic drink from the trolley. prices are very much as you would expect..about £1.50 for hot drinks and about £3 for a double short and mixer. Mind you, there's not much time on the shorter routes to get a hot drink down you in the time you have, so I'd say have a cold drink-or if your travelling companion doesn't mind, have a g+t! 7am was a bit early even for me, though so I had coffee...
I would recommend Jet2 for price..(we paid £44 each including tax for a weekend return flight to Amsterdam)!!More routes are coming on line now and you can go to Spain ..with more soon. Milan is now booking and Jet2 have a lot of seats for £9.99 each way in May and June....I'm off to look at the site now and see if I can arrange anything.... We will certainly be using Jet2 again, and the more people who use them, I imagine the more flights will be introduced. So get booking!
And thanks for reading this!!!

I travel with Jet2 frequently. Great review. I found the hint about saving on car parking useful. BTW, the big bargain on board is the fruit juice - only 50p a can.

Thanks for a good comprehensive review. My friend and I are going to Nice for a weekend with Jet2 next month and it's reassuring to a nervous flyer that the airline has a good rating! Lois

Sadly, I bet they don't fly to my local airport - will certainly have a nose though - have a forthcoming trip to Huddersfield and dreading the drive. Sue
