I travelled in April from Newcastle to Tenerife and I was very impressed with Jet2. Firstly, we booked online and the website was very user friendly, we did not encounter any problems at all when booking. When we got to the airport, it was a very quick check-in, there was no queue at all and the check in staff were very friendly.
The luggage allowance is 18kg which is very reasonable as most airlines only offer you 15kg standard and an extra 5kg at a supplement. I always go over my luggage allowance no matter what it is, however, since I only went on holiday for 4 nights, 18kg was more than enough.
Once
on the aircraft I was very suprised to find we had leather seats. Jet2 being a budget airline I expected cramped and uncomfortable seats, however the seats were the most comfortable and roomy of any airline I have travelled with and I have travelled with quite a few.
There were quite a few spare seats so after take-off quite a few people moved into the empty seats so that everyone had plenty room, I had the whole 3 seats to myself as did my sister on the opposite side which meant I could stretch out and go to sleep.
I didn't have any food on the outward journey as I wasn't hungry when the cabin crew first came round and later when I was hungry they didn't have any sandwiches left. I had a sandwich on my return flight which was lovely, cheese ploughman's. Although the limited choice of sandwiches available appealed 2 me, it certainly wouldn't appeal to everyone. My sister is quite a picky eater and so wouldn't eat any of the sandwiches available. The food is quite expensive for individual items however, they do a meal deal which consists of a sandwich, mini can of pringles and a small bottle of coke, sprite, fanta etc. all for £5 which I thought was quite reasonable.
The staff are all very polite and always happy to help. They're all genuinely cheerful too, none of those fake smiles plastered across their faces which was nice. Also the pilot made a number of announcements about where we were, the altitude, weather conditions etc. which I found interesting.
The take off and landing were both very smooth in both directions and there were no problems with reading while taking off and landing unlike some other airlines. The biggest disadvantage with Jet2 is probably the lack of inflght entertainment but it is a budget airline so I didn't expect it. It would have been nice since Tenerife is a 5 hour flight, but I had a book so it didn't bother me.
Once in Tenerife the luggage collection was very quick and one thing which really amazed me was the condition of the suitcases. I have flown with many airlines and everytime have ended up with dirty, battered and sometimes broken suitcases, however, my suitcase was spotless, not a mark on it. It was just as clean as when I had checked in which really was the icing on the cake. Even when I got back to England on my return flight, my case was still in perfect condition.
When booking with Jet2, the booking confirmation clearly states check-in closes 45 minutes before departure. On our return flight we got to the airport 55 minutes before departure and were shocked to find all of the check-in desks closed. We approached the airport staff who were incredibly unhelpful and told us we had missed our flights, to come back on friday. (It was tuesday) I then found a lady from Jet2 who was closing her little kiosk and told her what had happened, she told me check-in had closed for all flights that night. When I pointed out to her that we still had 10 minutes before check-in should have closed she got straight on the phone to someone (I don't know who as she spoke in Spanish) and then informed us that someone was coming to re-open check-in for us as they had made a mistake closing it too early. I was amazed by this service as I expected to have to fight to get on the flight, a bit like we see on that TV programme with easyjet, but there was no need to even raise my voice.
All in all, a great airline, punctual flights and polite, friendly staff. I would definitely fly with them again, although I do believe that at peak times they charge a supplement per item of luggage, not sure how much it is but it may well be a consideration if you're on a budget.

Review of Jet2
Advantages: Cheap flights! Isn't that why we fly with them after all? Disadvantages: All the extra charges, however even after paying for hold luggage it's still cheap.
