I have just recently flown with jet2 for a couple of trips - one to alicante from manchester and one to rome fumicino from manchester. As they were very close together i thought i would share my views as obviously two very different routes and staff were different on the different routes too.

Booking:
The jet2 website was very easy to use - i find most low cost airline websites are really and there isn't anything different about the jet2 website that makes it any easier to use than any other of the low cost airlines sites but i would say it is one of the more attractive looking ones. Lovely and bright with an array of offers highlighted and an easy to use search tool on the left hand side of the screen - just pop the details in it asked for such as date, departure airport and arrival airport, along with number of passengers and away you go - it will search that criteria and give you the results of the search - if you want to select you can do by highlighting the chosen flights and it will give you the final cost of your chosen flights. Once you're happy with everything just continue along until it asks for the passengers names along with the details of the payment card you will be using. (there is charges on certain cards - electron is free to use). Once you've entered all these details and are happy to confirm all these details you can confirm the booking by pressing the confirm flights button.
Normally after confirming, you will receive your booking reference within a couple of minutes of hitting the confirm button. It is normally made up of numbers and letters. The reference number it gives you is all you need along with your ID to check in with.

The airline now charge passengers to take a hold bag with them (as in a suitcase that will go onto the hold area of the aircraft). luckily, the flights i have recently travelled on, were booked before this came into play so was extempt from this charge. However if you now want to take hold baggage the charge is £10 per bag per person per flight( so 1 adult travelling on a return flight taking one hold bag would pay £20). The maximum weight you are allowed on the hold bag is 18kgs.
To take hand lugagge is free and this is upto 10kgs when i last checked.

Checking in:
we arrived at the airport and were able to check in very quickly and easily - plenty of desks at manchester airport were open and jet2 is in it's own area next to the mytravel desks so not as busy either as the main area where all the other desks are. The staff member who was stood at the front of the queue was handing out the labels to attach to any hand luggage as we were arriving at the head of the queue and advising us which desk to go to. This was the case for both of my flights, even though one was first thing in the morning (rome) and the other was late afternoon. Upon check in we were asked for passports(but not our confirmation number as they can find the booking usually by the names) and asked how many bags we were checking in. All the usual security questions were asked and then we were given our boarding cards and we were on our way. Very efficient and the girl on the desk was nice and polite - i also asked if possible to get a window seat and this was not an issue at all. (jet 2 is one of the few low cost airlines that actually do provide seat number to passengers that haven't pre booked extra legroom seats - most others unless you have pre booked extra legroom, it will just be first on, first choice on seats exactly like boarding a bus!!)

After check we made our way through passport control as normal with plenty of time to wander around the shops and go get a drink etc as both check in were smooth and quick. I found it more difficult to get my morning coffee on the airside as everyone needed that early morning kick, than when travelling on my afternoon flight but none the less, within approx half an hour of entering through we had a gate number on the departures board. As jet2 do provide seat numbers this does make it easier than having to worry about going straight away to the gate and setting up camp near the door as there is no need to be at the front of the queue like some other airlines such as ryanair which can cause chaos when they announce the gate is opening!! (and i've been there too!!) because i knew i had at least another 20 minutes before the gate closure and from where i was i was only a 1 minute walk away we decided to just relax until the area had cleared a bit and then board nearer to the end so that we could just get in our seats and be off pretty much - i know some will find this unusual but as long as you know when the gate is closing then just be aware to get there at least 5 mins before - most airlines will announce the gate closing 5 minutes beforehand too so this then gives you plenty of time depending on obviously what airport you are at and what gate you have to get too!

Boarding:
For the flight i travelled on to Alicante i noticed the gate area was still pretty busy even though close to departure but, boarding was done swiftly and easily as there was no need to transport us to the aircraft as it was just on the normal tunnel from gate to door of the aircraft. Again boarding on the second flight was effecient and i even still had a bi of my breakfast barm which i was going to throw away but they let me board with it! staff at the doors of the aircraft were friendly and and advised where seats were and overall both flights were a pleasant and swift service for boarding.

Inflight:
Once we were all boarded, the captain made the usual announcment to say hello and to advise flying times and how many crew were onboard. We were advised that the safety checks would be made by cabin crew and the safety talk would be given during our taxi down to the runway.
Staff were quick on both flights of checking everyone seatbelts and making sure everyone had their seatbelts fastened and that all baggage was stowed away correctly - i did notice that on my Alicante flight on the inbound the cabin member who did the check had to ask the passenger in front of me to put his bag under the seat in front as he hadn't done so and she made sure he had done this before she moved on, which i thought was good as it showed she was taking the right precautions, some in the past i have seen will just tell you and move on without checking it' done!
Once all these checks had been done, the cabin crew got in position to do the safety talk with the life jackets and masks etc. I did notice, which i don't think i would have done had the flights not been so close together, that the crew on the Alicante flights did it in an opposite way around to how the Rome crew did it. Not sure if this makes all the difference in the world as long as all safety aspects are covered but just thought i'd mention this!

Once all the safety checks had been done and we had taken off (which was nice and smooth) the cabin crew started doing the rounds with the food and drink. Now as always food and drink are never inexpensive on any flight hwre you have to pay for it but jet2 weren't too bad at all. After doing so many flights so close together i can tell you for £2.50 you can have a 'chunky deal' which consists of a

kit kat chunky and a hot drink of your choice(tea, coffee, hot choc) and you can have a breakfast muffin for also £2.50 which is similar to the style of a macdonalds breakfast muffin with sausage, cheese and egg. these are sold in quorn version or normal and personally i think they are pretty nice (which would explain why i had one on each flight!! lol)
they also sell a range of sandwiches for £3.50 each but if you wait until the end of the service, if they have any left they reduce them to £1.50. A range of other drinks and snacks as normal and i wouldn't say they have any more or less than any other low cost airline so pretty avergae in this area really.

Duty free:
They sell a range of duty free including perfume and make up ect along with airline branded goods like teddies and cards etc. Price wise again, i would say about the same as other airlines of this standard. I didn't buy anything on my alicante flight but i did purchase a pack of cards on the rome flight to keep us entertained which cost me £3. Now i know probably that the staff work on comission and get a bonus for sales but one of the crew (her name was louisa) was very helpful. I had asked while they were serving food if i could get a pack of cards or would i need to wait for the duty free (which i didn't mind having to do) and she advised i would have to wait due to sales laws and when they can sell it. Once they had finished she came back to me straight away and asked me if i still wanted the cards - i just thought it was nice of her to remember and to make the effort. Not much but for me it's the little things!

Landing and take off:
As i mentioned above, the take off was nice and smooth and this goes for both flights (even in the torrentila rain that we took off from Alicante in!) and lanidng was also nice and pleasant - i know this is an issue for some people especially if they don't like flying so worth noting that even though a low cost airline it wasn't shabby!! The pilots made all the usual announcments after take off to advise of flying times and altitude etc and also on the landings as to how long to touchdown and local weather and times etc.

Prices:
Now with the Alicante flight i couldn't tell you exact cost simply because we booked our whole package through jet2holidays.com not flight on it's own. I am happy to tell you though for the bargain price of £398 we got our return flights for 2 of us and a weeks ALL INCLUSIVE - yes thats right you heard me £398 total cost! For rome it was just the flight part and these flights cost me £129 for two of us in total.

Overall opinion:
As i said before i booked my flights before the charges for luggage came into play so now anyone booking would have to pay for this if you needed it on top of the flight cost ( cheaper than scheduled flights though) and depending on if you want to you can prebook extra legroom seats at a cost of £12.50 per person per way. On certain routes, for example, leeds bradford, you can now also book a personal tv but not completely sure of costs of this service.
The staff that i had were pleasant and polite and also helpful on both return flights i took and aircraft didn't seem too old (a lot of low cost aircrafts are older) and overall price wise they were excellent. I would fly with this airline again in an instant and would probably say the only downside is that it's a shame you now do have to pay for baggage. The airline do offer loads of other extras that are in conjunction with partners of theirs such as car hire, hotels, insurance etc and of course they have their own holidays website too now, which as from above, you can see is really cheap!

As always though i would make sure you read any small print or terms and conditions BEFORE finalising a booking. In particular jet2 do not allow route changes so if you do want to change route you would have to cancel at full cost and then just book whichever new route you need. Some low cost do allow this but jet2 doesn't so this is well worth noting.
