Now that I am living in England, I do tend to find that the Chinese food is cooked to the tastes more down here as to how they cook it in Scotland. I do like Manchester because with China Town they have a lot of nice all you can eat Chinese Buffet’s but some have things I like where as some others have other things I like. I find it difficult to find a restaurant which has all that I like under one roof in terms of Chinese Cuisine. Whenever, I go home I like to go to Jimmy Chung’s which if you live in Edinburgh, you will be well aware of. They were one of the first restaurants to open offering the all you can eat buffet which has since started a craze but they still do one of the best.
The menu alters at lunch and dinner times and on different times of the week and also in local newspapers they sometimes give vouchers that if two adults are paying one can eat for free. Whenever entering a Jimmy Chung’s you can always smell the food from outside which usually lures me in. The decor inside is not the most cultural but it is warm and welcoming, nicely lit and
has a friendly atmosphere. I always get seated right away and my drinks are normally ordered, it is always best to go for a large drink here so that you don’t have to keep ordering drinks as you will definitely need it.
The inside is usually quite neutrally coloured in terms of the colour scheme and all the waiters and waitresses are dressed smartly. When getting in here once drinks are ordered, it is literally a case of grab your plate and begin. To start with there are different soups on offer usually chicken and sweet corn and the other alters from time to time. They also have starters on a section of their own with the likes of prawn toasts, won tons, chips, chicken balls, sweet & sour sauce, Maryland chicken, ribs, chicken wings, onion rings etc. I am getting hungry with the visual in my mind of going here and of course you can help yourself to prawn crackers too.
Once you have devoured your starters it is then onto the main courses, they have plenty of options for vegetarians, anyone who loves spice or anyone who likes traditional Chinese food. They have a mix of noodle dishes, chicken dishes, like honey beef chicken, chicken curry, bbq pork, mussels in chilli sauce, lemon chicken, chicken in black bean sauce, beef with mushrooms and so on. They then do rice like egg fried rice, special fried rice, fried mushrooms etc.
Lastly, for my favourite part of the meal usually when I’m too full is the desserts. They constantly bring out new cakes which is nice to see and have a nice selection too of gateaux’s, ice cream, fruit and also the likes of banana fritter but this is not always hot and if it is cold it ruins this dessert. With the cake they also have single cream to accompany which makes it all that bit nicer. They also have jelly as well so they have quite a range to finish off the overall buffet experience.
I really like Jimmy Chung’s it is a nice environment, it is always clean, and dishes are always updated as are plates and cutlery. Staff are friendly always willing to help and the range has everything I want from a Chinese Buffet. They are reasonably priced and are comfortable and they seem to be doing well for themselves as they are always branching out. They currently have restaurants in Edinburgh which are on Waverley Bridge and Grindlay Street both of which I have been too and all follow the same decor. Then they have one in Stirling, Inverness, Dundee, Aberdeen has four branches which are on Union Street, Great Western, Stoneywood and Beach Esplanade and also there is now a restaurant in Dublin so they are getting known out of Scotland.
Just going by the information on the website for my nearest branch Edinburgh’s Waverley Bridge the times for the lunch menu are Monday to Thursday 11.45am-4.30pm and dinner is 5pm-10.30pm on Monday-Thursday. For Friday to Sunday lunch is the same times but dinner is Friday to Saturday 5pm-11pm so that little bit later on and on Sunday’s dinner is 5pm-10.30pm. That is a lot of times to follow there and now for pricing.
Monday to Thursday lunch: £7.49 (children under 11 is £4.49)
Friday to Sunday lunch: £8.49 (children under 11 is £4.99)
Dinner on Sunday is £10.99 (children under 11 is £5.99)
Monday to Thursday dinner is £11.99 (children under 11 is £6.49)
Friday to Saturday dinner is £12.99 (children under 11 is £6.99)
All prices are not bad for what is on offer but if you want more information specifically on your nearest restaurant then go to http://www.jimmychungs.com I just picked my nearest for a rough price guideline. The website gives a full menu of all dishes on offer and pricing, opening hours, there is also a takeaway listed if you live in Aberdeen.

Advantages: Great variety, good value, good service and nice ambience Disadvantages: The water situation, the menus haven't really changed much, not the best chinese food out there

Advantages: Lots to do, lots of places to eat, gorgeous city, love the nightlife Disadvantages: Good old Scottish weather I suppose and I do dislike the busyness of city life
