Jinja is a town east of the capital of Uganda Kampala. It is about 45 minutes to an hours drive from the capital.
Jinja is a multicultural town and with a large Asian and European community.Attractions:
The source of the river Nile is in Jinja and while that presents in ones mind a sight unrivalled by any other in ones mind it is rather ordinary but worth a visit.
This part of the Nile also happens to have some of the best rapids you will find anywhere so if you are interested in white water rafting, bungee jumping from a cliff over the raging river then this is your kind of place.
There are companies in the area that will take you white water rafting if you are in to that kind of thing. I have friends who live in the area so I did not hire have to use a tour company. The rapids are are some of the best almost as good as on the Zambezi. Ask at your hostel or tour guide, they will point you in the right dirction.
The Kira Dam is a sight if you are in to aqua dam architecture (used to called Owen falls dam)
The local boys put on an amazing show mainly in the afternoons where they dive from a cliff in to raging water; amazing.
The Currency is the shilling but the dollar is acceptable at some hotels.
How to get there:Speak to your travel agent.
Accommodation:Security:
The security is okay, watch out for pick pocketers though and consult your tour guide before you decide to go off anywhere on your own. If you don't have one speak to the hotel staff they will point you in to the right direction.

Lots of information but a total lack of personal experience. You could have written this without leaving the UK - please try to give more of a personal flavour of how you enjoyed it (or not) what impact it had on you and so on. If you revise, let me know and I'll read again.
