Mi Casa Su Casa - terribly managed guesthouse in Meville, JNB

Advantages: good location, nice asthetics
Disadvantages: terrible management

All three micasasucasa guesthouses are well located in the Melville area of Jo-berg. But this is where all optimism ends. The guesthouse is poorly managed - they promise adequate parking, hot water, cable and internet but none are actually delivered. The owners/staff refuse to take any responsibility for their mismanagement perpetually blaming the city or other customers for their incompetence. ...only one set of keys to our room so had to hand it over to the cleaning staff before leaving the hotel each time (including the key to the room safe!). Second, at 7 PM we found ourselves locked inside the guesthouse, unable to exit, because the staff had all left without leaving us a correct set of main-door keys. Deninately go!!

Advantages: Friendly staff, great location, excellent garden & bbq area
Disadvantages: Bar needs to be better stocked

...on and off at Africa's Zoo Lodge over the last couple of weeks and are suitably impressed. The lodge has been revamped over the last year or so. The staff is helpful, the location perfect to explore Johannesburg and the facilities clean. What more can one ask for when looking for budget accommodation! In between our stays, all beds, even the dorm beds, were fitted with new mattresses and bedding, including sheets, duvets, duvet covers and pillows. ...

Look elsewhere

Advantages: location OK
Disadvantages: poor condition, manager a serious problem

We booked several nights for a group while working on a project in one of the townships. We wanted someplace safe and not too rowdy, although members of our group are reasonably tolerant and some have traveled widely with primitive accomodations. The outside facilities are pretty, but inside there are unattached floorboards, rooms lit be a single low-illumination bare bulb, plumbing that does not work, and questionable wiring. On the last night before we left, someone knocked on the door of the two youngest in our group three times, and passed out on the floor after the last time.
