There are 15 John Fowler Holiday Parks in Devon and Cornwall. Some of them in woodlands, some of them near beaches. All of them conveniently located.
I am only going to mention the three that ... ...too. I should tell John Fowler, maybe they will give us a free holiday?!!!
We booked a two-storey villa for £96, which sleeps 4/6 people. The villa was like a little 2 up 2 down house. In fact the whole park looked like a council estate! The kitchen was equipped with fridge, cooker, microwave. The tv was tiny. You only get a remote control if you stay in the top class accommodation.

ST IVES HOLIDAY VILLAGE +++++++++++++++++++++
St Ives is about 2 miles away. This park is near Hayle. We stayed here in September 2003. We payed around £70 for a four night break, Mon-Fri.
The chalets are set in over 100 acres of woodland, and there are squirrels running around outside your front door.
When you check in at reception they give you the usual pack of key, map, and leaflets on local attractions.
We stayed in a very basic Bronze chalet. This had one double bedroom and one twin bedroom. There was also a sofa-bed in the lounge. The amenities are very basic, but all necessary cooking utensils are there. The bathroom was tiny, but had a bath/shower in it.
There was a large heated indoor pool and the usual Club house with bar, restaurant, shop, takeaway etc. For children there is the Foxy Club and there is entertainment every evening for adults and children alike.
We enjoyed our stay here and had no cause for complaint. We visited St Ives, Lands End, Lizard Point, Fowey and many other places from here.
TRELAWNE MANOR HOLIDAY PARK +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
- Billed as a Big & Lively park. This is in the grounds of a manor house, which is now the clubhouse. We paid £96 for a four-night break, Mon-Fri.
The park is near Looe
We stayed here in March 2004 and had no cause to complain.
We stayed in a first-floor apartment, not too far from the Clubhouse. There is ample parking outside. There are both indoor and outdoor pools here. Entertainment is provided nightly, there is the Foxy Club for children and the usual amenities of pool, arcade, crazy golf.
The apartment was on the ground floor of a two-storey building, in a terrace block. There was a double and twin bedroom, with a sofa-bed in the lounge, so could sleep 4/6 people. The bathroom had a shower in it.
The kitchen was small, but perfectly equipped. We did not have a kettle, but we asked at reception and one was delivered immediately. The park had only just opened for the year, so they were not fully up and running yet.
From here we visited St Austell, Charlestown, The Eden Project, Cornish Market World, Polperro, Looe, and many other places.
PERRAN VIEW HOLIDAY PARK +++++++++++++++++++++++++
We stayed here in March 2005. This park is billed as a Fun & Leisurely Park. It is 2 miles from Perranporth Beach and 10 miles from Newquay.
My partner actually proposed to me while we where there, on my birthday, so that was pretty amazing too. I should tell John Fowler, maybe they will give us a free holiday?!!!

The annoying thing about this park is that you have to park in a car park outside and then walk to your chalet. Ours was not too far, but any further and I would have been mad! It seems silly, as there is ample grass outside each house to park on.
There is a tennis court, Foxy Club, indoor heated pool with lifeguard, sauna, crazy golf, shop and food places. The Best of the West club was for the evening Bingo and Cabaret, but we usually tend to avoid that.
We were not given a map of the park, or any information on the pool etc, as that info had not been received yet as the park had only just opened.
From here we visited Newquay, Padstow, Tintagel and Boscastle, Port Isaac, Truro, Falmouth.
We live in Devon, so I doubt that we will visit many more John Fowler Parks, and we will have seen most of Cornwall when we return from this holiday, but I must say, we are very impressed with the places that we have stayed in. Having said that, I now discover that they have parks in Brixham, and Burnham on Sea, so there are two more that we can visit.
They are cheap and cheerful, and sometimes a bit shabby, but when you are out all day, and need a "home" to come back to, they are perfectly adequate. If you want a holiday to stay onsite all week, then there is plenty to do.
I would recommend these parks to families on a limited budget who want a short break. You can also of course stay for a full week.
PRICES ++++++
There are always special offers on the website, and you can also request a brochure from there. This will give you full info on each park. For example, a 2/4 berth chalet in September would cost you £180 for a week. All weeks start on a Saturday.
For information telephone John Fowler on 01271 866766 from 9am to 10pm.
Advantages: None Disadvantages: To many to list - complete waste of hard earned money
We went to John Fowler, Illfracombe holiday park during August 2008 and paid over £850 for a week in their "Royal Gold Bungalow" accommodation. We booked after looking at their holiday brochure - what an absolute waste of money and i would not recommend this "park" to anyone, i came away feeling i had been taken for a fool for parting with £850 to stay on this so called holiday park.
1. When you book a holiday for your family and you are paying ... ...have certain expectations about the type of holiday you can expect and the JFH brochure makes a good job of confirming those expectation - until you get to the holiday park and the reality of the situation very quickly kicks in and you find you are on the worst, most child unfriendly holiday park ever.
There is one very big problem with JFH Illfracombe , It is not a holiday park - it is a housing estate with a basic swimming pool and entertainment ...

Advantages: Cheap, clean, excellent facilities Disadvantages: Very steep hills
...from a week on the John Fowler Holiday site in Widemouth Bay, Cornwall, I had to quickly write an opinion.
We arrived after a slow journey down the M5 to a very quick, efficient check-in where we were given the keys to the caravan and a map of the site showing us how to get to the caravan.
We booked the bronze caravan, the cheapest type on the site. After entering the caravan we were overwhelmed with the cleanliness of the accommodation. The bedrooms ... ...beds were extremely small but adequate for children. The living area was enormous which would easily have seated 12 people! This area could easily sleep 4 although only sold as sleeping 2.
The bathroom comprises of a sink, toilet and shower. There was adequate shelving in the bathroom for everybodies toiletries aswell.
The kitchen area had a 4 ring gas oven, sink and lots of cupboard space. The boiler was a combi boiler which heats the water on ...

Quick review of John Fowler Holidays
John Fowler- Coombe Martin 16/8/08-23/8/08- 6 in party.
Well on first impression it was dated and very very old fashioned...got into my 6 berth Caravan and Yes it was, what a surprise.
The caravan smelt old and musty and very damp as it was under lots of big trees. Ended up sleeping on the settee's because the mattress smelt so bad. Not enough crockery or untensils.Tthe "club" was so dated and tatty we didnt even bother to go down to it. There was no where for my daughter to just play around the caravan and parking was so terribly "tight",crammed in.
No Launderette on site or ironing facilities either?!?!? VERY POOR VALUE FOR MONEY! ...

Quick review of John Fowler Holidays
Stayed in Royal Gold bungalow 23/30/08/2008.Site and bungalow clean and tidy but bungalow space at a premium.Reported faulty towel rail on first day but it never got fixed. Laundry machines were next to useless. Washing came out wringing wet and after two hours in tumble drier no difference. Got the feeling that washer set at minimum spin and tumble drier set at minimum heat so it would cost more to do laundry.Pool overcrowded and kids aloud to run riot.No chance of a proper swim as it did not open till ten.Doubt if we would go back. ...

every one. Quiet countryside to frantic non stop entertainment.
Places I recommend:
Croyde Bay - Spectacular views, golden sandy beaches and the fun pool at Ruda Holiday camp- What an experience I think we were the only grandmothers shrieking our way down the water slide.
Don't miss the rock museum in the village.
Williams Arms at Braunton -Best carvery I have eaten for a long time but be warned even in low season it is very busy. If you are disappointed and there is no room then there is a superb fish and chip shop not far away.
Barnstaple - busy market town with interesting Pannier Market selling everything, theatre, cinema,modern shoppig centre, fascinating museum and loads more.
Westward Ho! - No it's not a wonderful place but it provides a great base for getting out and about in North Devon (Try JohnFowlersHoliday ...

Advantages: Cheap and cheerful Disadvantages: You have to buy the Sun
Pontins parks at all costs.
The only truly awful holiday we had was at a Pontins park near Brixham Devon. The chalet had one bedroom to sleep four 50 year old women, The bedding was wet, there were 2 chairs to sit on at the table (plastic garden chairs) Cleaning had obviously been done by someone with a visual handicap as they had missed a handful of hair in the bath and the electricity meter was faulty. To cap it all the place was full of 14year olds taking part in a 5 a side football competition.
Try to get in at JohnFowler parks. Clean comfortable basic accomodation. Many holidays here never any complaints. Trying a new JohnFowler park next week so I hope it is the same.
Dont expect luxury, Dont expect your first choice. Do expect to enjoy yourseld.
I'm not too sure if it is economical but I know that the last time I stayed in ...
