Clean, cheap and very cheerful
Advantages Cheap, clean, excellent facilities
Disadvantages Very steep hills
Having just returned from a week on the John Fowler Holiday site in Widemouth Bay, Cornwall, I had to quickly write an opinion.
We arrived after a slow journey down the M5 to a very quick, efficient check-in where we were given the keys to the caravan and a map of the site showing us how to get to the caravan. We booked the bronze caravan, the cheapest type on the site. After entering the caravan we were overwhelmed with the cleanliness of the accommodation. The bedrooms were one double and a twin room. The twin beds were extremely small but adequate for children. The living area was enormous which would easily have seated 12 people! This area could easily sleep 4 although only sold as sleeping 2.
The bathroom comprises of a sink, toilet and shower. There was adequate shelving in the bathroom for everybodies toiletries aswell. The kitchen area had a 4 ring gas oven, sink and lots of cupboard space. The boiler was a combi boiler which heats the water on demand. 4 of us had showers one after the other and had constant hot water.
The actual site has a shop with all foods and drinks in stock, a laundrette which I didn't venture into (I don't do washing on holiday!), a clubhouse which seated 500 comfortably and entertainment every night. They were very good at closing the bar exactly on time and people were "removed" after half an hour drinking up time. The site is very hilly and not very friendly for wheelchair users unless you ask for the special disabled user caravans. The children "Foxy Club" was excellent, they entertained the kids for 2 hours in the morning and 1.5 hours in the evening. They collected stickers for every session and after 7 visits they received a fox soft toy which was lovely.
Their food was also very good. You could eat in or take away anything on the menu and very well priced. Pasty & Chips £2.30, Rack of Ribs with BBQ sauce £4.95. We ate their food every day and didn't venture out of the park in the evenings. There is an adventure playground and crazy golf, but my kids are too young to appreciate these yet. They also have an indoor swimming pool which was just a little too small and cold for my liking but very popular with all of the campers. There was a life guard on duty at all times.
I would recommend anybody visit this site which is in 10 minutes drive from Bude and half an hour from Newquay. Widemouth Bay beach which is walking distance is beautiful. Sandy (good sandcastle making sand) and excellent surf. Plenty of dishy Australian life guards on duty to make the view even nicer!!
