...tomato sandwiches. I've never tried Johnny Rocket sandwiches. However, I have heard that they are extremely delicious. Also on sale are hot dogs, chilli dogs and a range of salds for all those health freaks out there. However there are no meals aimed specifically for vegetarians.
In the way of drinks they offer the usual variety of sodas including 'Coca Cola', 'Sprite' and others similar. Also there's Iced Tea, Lemonade, Milk, Coffee, ... ...Rockets HAS to be their floats, milkshakes and malts in the flavours of chocolate, strawberry and vanilla. Never in my life have I tasted anything as nice as a chocolate malt complete in a tall glass with cream and straws. It truly is the most amazing flavour, certainly beating any McDonald's milkshake by far!!

I think it's fair to say that everyone knows America is well-known for their huge meals. When you enter a restaurant there everything is super-sized. What would be extra large to us is extra small to them. This is why my dad loves taking us to America so much. It doesn't matter where we are, whether it's Disneyland, shopping or on the beach, my dad will always be wondering where his next meal is coming from. He says his meal time are the highlight of his vacation. So on a very sunny day of spending at a shopping area called 'The Block' in Orange County, Los Angeles, my dad dragged us into a little restaurant he'd experienced before on a previous trip to the United States.
Around America you can find a 'Johnny Rocket's' in many places including Washington, Nevada, Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Texas, Minnesota, Missouri, Illinois, Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New Jersey, Maryland, District of Columbia and of course California. These restaurants can also be found outside the U.S. in Australia, Mexico, Puerto Rico and other locations. For exact information on locations, visit http://www.johnnyrockets.com/locations/
As you approach 'Johnny Rocket's' you'll notice the bright neon sign with 'Johnny Rockets' in red captured in a yellow circle, with the subtitle 'The Original Hamburger'.
The first 'Johnny Rockets' opened in Los Angeles on June 6th, 1986. That means they have now been running for almost 18 years and since have branched out into other locations. As you step in 'Johnny Rockets', you'll notice you are walking on black checkered floor tiles. There is a silver polished bar, red seating booths and small jukeboxes on every tabletop. There is also the choice to sit outside in the sunshine at the silver tables and chairs. To complete the 50's style diner theme, 50's memoribilia and Hollywood stars lace the walls. The 50's style appealed to me as I am a great lover of 50's style fashion and music. You are shown to your seat by a waiter or waitress in a white uniform complete with apron and bow-tie.
As my family and I took our seats, we started scanning the playlist, then inserting nickels into our little tabletop jukebox to pick out our song. I kept picking out 'Twist and Shout' and 'My Girl' while my brother was hoping for songs by Frank Sinatra. After choosing your songs, you should soon hear them playing overhead for the entire diner guests to hear. Just a tip, if you pick 'YMCA', the staff have to stand up in front of everybody and dance to it with the appropriate actions. It really does make for great entertainment and a lot of laughs!
After searching through the menu, the helpful staff will come over to take your order. There is a huge range of food. So much to choose from!
For starters you can have fries, onion rings, fries topped with melted cheese, 1/2 fries and 1/2 onion rings, chilli bowl or chilli fries.
There is a large range of hamburgers all made of a full 1/3 pound of fresh ground beef. There is 'The Original', with fresh lettuce, tomato, chopped onion, relish, pickle, mustard and mayonnaise. The '#12', with cheddar cheese, fresh lettuce, onion slice, pickle, mayonnaise their tangy "red red sauce". The 'streamliner' with grilled onions, fresh lettuce, tomato, pickle and mustard. The 'Route66' with fresh grilled mushrooms and onions, Swiss cheese and mayonnaise. The 'Smoke House' with cheddar cheese, thick bacon, crisp onion rings and their own barbecue-ranch sauce. The 'St. Louis' with thick bacon, Swiss cheese, grilled onions, fresh lettuce, pickle and sauce. The 'Patty Melt' with grilled onions and Cheddar cheeses on grilled rye bread. The 'Chilli Size' all-meat chili and topped with fresh grated cheddar cheese and chopped onions. The 'Rocket Double', two fresh patties, two slices of cheddar cheese, fresh lettuce, ripe tomato, onion slice & special sauce. And my favourite, the 'Rocket Single', a single version of the 'Rocket Double'.
They sell chicken, cheese, egg salad, ham & cheese, tuna salad and tomato sandwiches. I've never tried Johnny Rocket sandwiches. However, I have heard that they are extremely delicious. Also on sale are hot dogs, chilli dogs and a range of salds for all those health freaks out there. However there are no meals aimed specifically for vegetarians.

There is a children's menu on request as this is not only a place for adults. This is a family-based diner which puts a nice little twist on your usual restaurant meal. Admittedly, the staff have occasionally made mistakes in our orders, but they always make up for it. This place is great for a lunch time meal without taking much out of your pocket. It certainly is reasonably price when you are getting a delicious meal with some great entertainment and consistent theming. I recommened this to anybody who sees this place around. It's certainly like nothing else I've ever experienced!
Advantages: Good ol' fashion 50's style diner Disadvantages: Went twice and wasn't so good second time
I went to Johnny Rocket's diner in St Petersburg, Florida and it was situated in an outdoor shopping area called Bay Walk. Lovely place, pricey shops, cinema nearby-but that's not what I'm reviewing. It wasn't the LA one but as it's a chain, I don't really think that matters. Visit one Pizza Hut,visit them all-that kinda thing.
The restaurant is how you'd imagine a typical 50's diner to look like, checkered black and white floors, red leather booths, ... ...most important part of all! Johnny rockets is an American diner and no american diner would be complete with out milkshakes and malts! There was quite a selection of malts and shakes, your traditional strawberry, vanilla, chocolate etc but also a selection of modern day creations such as oreo cookie shakes, marshmallow-vanilla, and what I ordered the amazing, mocha-fudge malt.
MMmm...the fries came in a good ol' 50's basket, and the burgers looked ...

Advantages: great dining experience, retro Disadvantages: food wasnt GREAT
As a visitor to Los Angeles, I had not heard of the chain 'Johnny Rockets', and just happened to pop in to the branch on hollywood boulevard as I was thirsty. Little did I know that I was in fact entering a time warp! Great retro decor, with an authentic diner bar and cute touches like 'jukebox' napkin holders, we decided to have the full experience and order one of their trademark burgers and milkshakes. Had to wait a while for the food, which wasnt ... ...everyone who works in any restaurant in LA is actually a wannabe actor, and these guys didnt hold back- suddenly, when Arethra Franklin's 'Respect' came on the jukebox, ALL of the bar and food staff ran into the centre of the diner, and did a crazy little line dance with actions. They DID look a bit like they wanted the floor to swallow them up, especially when all the greedy tourists started taking pictures, bu it was a great surprise and made the ...
