A Warm Welcome Review ofChelsea Star Hotel, New YorkCityby

Advantages: good location, friendly staff Disadvantages: limited facilities, small, no disabled access
...The Chelsea Star Hotel is situated on the corner of 30th street and eighth avenue in Manhattan. It is quite a small hostel with dorms as well as single and double rooms which are all custom designed. The bathrooms are nice and the place is always clean but there is nowhere to sit and relax - something you long for when you are staying in a dorm. There are phones, an internet machine and a coffee machine and good tourist information.
I found the staff extremely helpful and friendly and I received a warm welcome. The hostel itself is in an ideal location: mid-Manhattan and within easy reach of the subway, Times Square, Madison Square Gardens and Penn station.
Over all it was a good place to stay, if not a little expensive for the limited facilities. The room prices are not bad for Manhattan but not as cheap as the International Student...

Advantages: great Location, Great Value Disadvantages: No frills
...The hotel Pennsylvania is a tourist class hotel. This means low bidget no frills you get what you pay for. but at the end of the day if all you want is a clean room with a bed shower and basic tv, this hotel more than does the job. having been to NY numerous times I can genuinely say you will not find a better priced hotel. It is clean, the rooms are a fair size in relatively good condition. I have only had two problems during many stays there and both were resolved quickly by very helpful staff.
There are a few niggly points for the fussier traveller, the towels could be a little bigger, the tv only has about twenty channels, no room service. but if you want a better hotel pay better prices.
The location could not be better, You are less than a block from madison Square garden, and Penn Station ( from which you can get a subway...

New Yorker, New York Review ofRamada Plaza & Inn - New Yorker Hotel, New YorkCityby
andyrampage
Advantages: Well placed for Empire State and Madison SG, pleasant hotel Disadvantages: looking a little tired in places
...I stayed here in January 2006 for 4 nights. We were a party of 2 adults and 2 children staying in a double room. The beds are slightly less than double so we had 1 child and 1 adult per bed, which obviously only works with young children.
The New Yorker has had a very colourful past, with the some of the very biggest names having stayed there. Ali, stayed there in the early 70's after losing at Madison Square Garden. It has to be said though that the good days are long gone. Having closed briefly in the 70's/80's it is now looking reasonably good.
The decor in the rooms and landings is looking very tired and the bathrooms are quite small, however the rooms are clean and warm with plenty of hot water and good pressure on the shower. Plenty of towels are supplied and we have no complaints. Yes I would stay again.
There is a traditional...

The New Yorker is in an excellent midtown location with the subway (lines A, C & E) literally steps outside. Being on the corner of 8th Avenue and 34th Street this meant good access to Macy's, Empire State Building, Madison Square Gardens and the... more
If you want to stay in Central New York then this is the hotel to book. It is actually IN Times Square! It's a huge modern hotel with over 45 floors so some of the views are great. There is a bar at the top which is a lovely place to have a drink,... more
