look, without renouncing to comfort and functionality, ?Il Convento? hotel is ideal both for tourists and travelling businessmen. The reception/vestry, the bar/confessional, the breakfast room/refectory, the sitting room/parlour, everything reminds us an ancient Neapolitan Convent. The hotel Il Convento, next to the authentic Convent of S. Maria Francesca with the five sores, is situated in the heart of the historical centre of Naples, a few steps from the famous pedestrian precinct of Via Toledo with its elegant shops for a pleasant shopping, from the as well known Piazza del Plebiscito with the Royal Palace and the theatre San Carlo, from Via Caracciolo sea promenade , from the tourist and commercial Port, from the main administrative and financial offices.
Advantages: excellent holiday Disadvantages: dont go for just a week as there is just too much to pack into a week
...My husband and I booked a cheapy package to Sorrento about 40 kilometeres from Naples. It was prehaps the best value holiday that we have taken. The welcome that we recieved was wonderful from the hotel staff throw to people we met whilest out and about. the food was excellent and great value. The transport system around Naples and the amalfi coast is cheap and reliable. We found that we could get about using the public transport system very easily. Pompeii is a must - you must allow at least a day to be able to see it all. Also the ruins at Hersauleum in a suburb of Naples are also a must see site they are smaller then pompeii but are better preserved. The Amalfi drive is spectacular even if I did do it on a bus and not an open top car. The scenery is just amazing - not recommended if you are frightened of hights as the drop...

Advantages: Good pizza Disadvantages: Some areas a dodgy
...Since it would not be possible to summarize here the beauties of Naples, I thought it was more useful to give you some useful addresses, if you happen to be there. You should be aware that Naples CAN BE dangerous in some areas, especially at night. It is relatively easy to end up in the “bad parts” of the town, unless you know exactly where you are going, since there are some dodgy bits right in the centre of town. Prices for accommodation can be bargained for, to a certain extent. Near the station you can stay at “Prati”, definitively more expensive than many other hotels in the same area, but you pay more and get more. The tel number is (554 18 02) and it is based in Via C. Rosaroli 4. Another rgood place to stay is “Hotel Orchidea” (551 0721) in Corso Umberto 7. Be careful not to go to the nearby Spaccanapoli at night. Expect to pay...

Advantages: Hidden gems most people miss Disadvantages: Can be very hot visiting the ruins of pompei as there is no shops inside
...it was not opened up to the public, and the reason they said was due to the actual size of the ruined city its not possible to excavate it all so some parts are still not accessable completely by the public.
So next time you are near naples make sure you see the ruins atr pompei and also make sure that you look for the near covered paths.
Getting there : Pompei is just outside naples so flights from stanstead or gatwick are low cost with easyjet it cost me about £50 for a return flight to naples. British Airways holidays also do a package and lots of travel agents will do hotel packages to pompei or naples (naples is better as there is much more to do nightwise)
There are two ways to access the area of the ruins: Porta Marina and Piazza Anfiteatro. If you go by train or coach then you are always dropped of near Piazza Anfiteatro
The opening...
