Jost Van Dyke (Virgin Islands -UK)

The island of Jost Van Dyke is named after an early Dutch resident, reputed to be a pirate.
It is only four by three miles, but contains two of the best places for nightlife in the Caribbean.

Foxys is in Great Harbour, and pretty high in the top ten places in the world to be for New Year's Eve. Then the harbour is so full of yachts that they say you can walk from one side to the other without getting wet! But even the usual Friday and Saturday night parties are legendary, with a huge (very tasty) BBQ and disco until the early/late hours. I can't remember the exact cost but it was extremely reasonable. Foxy himself performs songs and jokes most afternoons. He's built his own microbrewery (I think it's the only one in the BVI) and also serves great rum cocktails.

The Soggy Dollar bar - so named because you can swim in from your boat - in White Bay (just around the coast) is home to the Painkiller - a delicious but lethal cocktail - I was singing after just two! It's made of rum, pineapple, coconut... They have hammocks in the palm trees and it's the perfect place to while away an afternoon.

As with many places in the BVI you really need a boat to be able to get to them. You can get here by water taxi, or ferry service from West End, Tortilla, St. John, or St. Thomas.
