On top of Europe

Advantages: Amazing views
Disadvantages: Expensive

Jungfraujoch - the top of Europe. This is one of the most impressive places I have ever visited. The views from the research station are breathtaking, it overlooks the longest glacier in Europe - over four miles. I visited in the winter but there is snow all year round. Although it experiences some very cold conditions ( up to -25 celcius), the sun is very hot, so put suntan cream on. The only way to access the Jungfraujoch is by train, which takes ...
...I would say worth every penny. The train stops halfway and you can actually look out of the north face of the Eiger, then its all the way to the top. I would advise you spend at least a couple of hours there to view the ice palace and minifilm and go up to the Sphinx (11,333ft). However I would recommend not to eat there as although there are 3 places to dine, they are quite expensive. The most important factor to consider before your trip is the ... more

Jungfraujoch

Advantages: Beautiful, stunning, breathtaking views
Disadvantages: Journey up the mountain is boring and tedious.

The single most stunning view I have ever seen was upon the top of Jungfraujoch. Don't let the height or cold scare you away, this is a perfect destination for any tourist or person in Switzerland seeking entertainment. The travel up the mountain is generally done via underground train, which makes for an interesting ride! There are several stops along the inside of the mountain, with giant windows to give an almost panoramic view of what is to come. Although you may have seen snow before, you may have even seen mountains before, but really.. Nothing will be able to prepare you for the breath-taking views from the top, either from the mountain top - where the snow is all around you, with only rope fences holding people back from the dangerous edges - or from the giant telescope and laboratory at the very top of the mountain, where ...

Review of The Jungfraujoch Experience, Interlaken

It's so easy to get H-I-G-H!

Advantages: Fantastic views within easy reach by all ages.
Disadvantages: Pricey if not using discount cards

11,000 feet above sea level is H-I-G-H. In fact it's more than two miles straight up. And that's where you'll find Jungfraujoch. --- What's Jungfraujoch? --- Jungfraujoch is a research site in Switzerland that is situated in the saddle between the Monch and Jungfrau peaks and the Jungfraujoch Experience is the method of transporting tourists from Interlaken Ost railway station or Grindelwald to Jungfraujoch without the need for sherpas, yaks and mountaineering equipment. A 'research site' sounds a bit bleak and evokes images of bushy-haired, bespectacled men busily rushing to and fro with clipboards, frowning and muttering under their breath about measuring this and that and the angles on their hypotenueses. But of course it's not like that at all. Jungfraujoch now has a very modern tourist centre that caters for typical ...

Best B&B in Interlaken

Advantages: Almost perfect
Disadvantages: Almost none - ok maybe one: no lift

I stayed here with my mom for 2 nights and we truly enjoyed our stay. Before booking, we did some research online and this hotel has been ranked first place on another review website so we thought this would be our best choice. We paid CHF 130 per room per night and this rate includes breakfast. The hotel is run by Chris and Ursula and this couple is great ! They told us everything we needed to know about our stay in Interlaken and suggested us a few itineries to follow. The main highlight for our stay was the trip to Jungfraujoch and Chris told us it's best to go up via Grindelwald and down via Lauterbrunnen. He even gave us directions to restaurants and a tour route of Interlaken. Location of hotel: Interlaken is a very small town and there are many hotels near the train station. There are two train stations in Interlaken ...
