The city/country of Singapore is a destination a visit twice a year, at least. And one of my favourite sight is the Jurong Birds Park that is located north-west of Orchard Road (if you are not familiar with Singapore, Orchard Road is the main shopping area for tourists).

The Jurong Birds Park can be reached by bus or MRT (Singapore underground) but I suggest to us a taxi that is not expensive, it takes you directly to the entrance and can wait you as long as you like.

Some more advises.
You can visit the park by feet (walking) as I strongly suggest or by air-conditioned monorail (you can ride it as long as you like, get on and get off at the several stations located along the rail trail) that I don't' like because I suffer of claustrophobia.
The entrance ticket cost is around 1,50 Euro while 3 Euro is the cost for the monorail.
If you wish to make a full and enjoyable visit you must spend here at least three hours.
Opening hours: 10 am - 6 pm, very day, 365 days a year.

The itinerary winds through tropical trees and flowers; in some points it seems to be inside a jungle.

Along the trail there are large, sometime huge, aviaries housing all species of our terraqueous globe. Every aviary has one or more placards that show the characteristics of the bird, its origin, etc.
There is also a special building devoted to the nocturnal birds; inside is very dark but it is still possible to shot photo. Unfortunately inside smells musty.
Some areas houses birds that don't fly like ostriches, ibis, flamingos, etc. Those area are designed in open space with ponds full of waterlilies, lotus and more aquatic flowers.

But what I like over all in an huge aviary with the shape of a jungle and with inside a waterfall and two streamlets. The area is bounded by a metal net well hided by the dense vegetation (you know that just because you must pass through two doors to enter inside).
Inside this aviary there are hundreds species of birds: from the smallest hummingbird to the toucan.
If you visit the aviary at the right time you can watch the birds feeding.

Nearby this aviary there is a bird-watching zone. Special watching boxes allow you to watch and photograph marvellous birds without disturbing them.

Inside the park, hided by the vegetation, there are some rest areas with vending machines and, of course, toilettes.

Recently (may be 10 years ago) the park added a typical attraction that I don't like: an amphitheatre where at specific time there is a show with eagles, falcons and other birds of prey.

I strongly suggest a tour of the Jurong Birds Park to everyone who likes flora and fauna; to everyone who likes the wildlife, to everyone who likes to experience the jungle life without go to far away.
It will be a new experience. It will be an healthy day if you decide to walk instead to use the monorail.

Jurong Bird Park
Review of Jurong (Singapore) by dipstick

Advantages: different type of exhibition, birds are cute as well
Disadvantages: falling bird poo-poo in the open-air aviaries

The Jurong Bird Park, as its name ostentiably suggests, is located in Jurong as well. This bird park is home to probably the most number of species of birds around the world in the region's bird parks. It also boasts the highest man-made waterfall in asia, and maybe the world. I'm not too sure about that. But anyway, for all you bird-fans out there, you can visit it and enjoy the birds. There are bird shows that are held several times daily, and ...
...one. That's when the trainers take the birds of prey out and let them exhibit their hunting prowess to the audience. usually by throwing meat up in the air and letting them catch it. Me? Personally, I prefer owls. They look cuter and fluffier. And hence more fun to hug. It's easily accessible by train (Mass Rapid Transit) and bus. Alternatively, one can get a taxi, as it's cheap in Singapore as compared to London or Continental Europe. Entrance fees ... Read review

Chinese Garden
Review of Jurong (Singapore) by dipstick

Advantages: Nice to relax in
Disadvantages: crowded in the evenings.

...Singapore is located in the Jurong area. This is a stretch of green with the Japanese garden and the Tuas Chinese City in Jurong. Jurong is the main industrial park in Singapore during the city planning stages in the early 1960s, but now there are other smaller industrial areas all over Singapore as well. In the middle of the chinese garden there's a chinese pagoda, much like the one in the English garden in Munich. And then again, most chiese pagodas ...
...as a location for a wedded couple to take their wedding photographs. Also, there is a nice pond in this garden where one can walk around and relax oneself after a long day's work. I believe buss route 66 still goes past the Chinese garden. Best of all, it's FREE!!! ... Read review

Japanese Garden
Review of Jurong (Singapore) by dipstick

Advantages: nice and soothing to visit
Disadvantages: too many people at weekends

...Japanese garden is located in Jurong as well, next to its neighbour the Chinese garden. Many people prefer the japanese garden to the chinese garden because it looks nicer and the area is usually better suited for walks. Like the chinese garden, there are often people coming here for their wedding photos and for picnics in the early evening. Just have to put up with the mosquitoes during the rainy season!!! Bus route 66 also plies this area, I think, ... Read review

Birds Paradise
Review of Jurong (Singapore) by Autumn-Swallow

Advantages: Fascinating
Disadvantages: non

Jurung is a industrial area as well as a tourist attraction. One of the tourist attraction that really attracts me is the Jurung Bird Park. That is the best bird park that I have everseen. It is big and very well organised. I like the colourful and friendly parrots which are left in the open air, and they will not fly away! They are so faithful to their owner and they just perch on the low branches where you can touch them without any difficulty. ... Read review

A Stifling but Satisfying Stopover
Review of General: Singapore by  gennymutant

Advantages: Loads to see and do! Great for shopping and cheap food.
Disadvantages: Humid and touristy. Watch out for rip-off merchants!

...- for around £20/night for twin share you get a 'First Class' hotel room (nothing too fancy but not bad either), unlimited free rides on the SIA Hop-On bus (which circles most of the main attractions in Singapore every half hour or so) and free passes including the Singapore Zoo, a River Boat Tour, the National Orchid Garden, the Jurong Bird Park and several museums. I believe the hotels also offer 50% discount on food for SIA customers, though we didn't take advantage of this. Clarke Quay is amazing at night - more neon than Soho or Kings Cross. Though we were a bit worn out to really take advantage of the nightlife there are scores of restaurants, pubs and discos all along the promenade (including a 'Hooters', for the pervy blokes out there). Market stalls and small eateries abound late into the night, so even if you're not in the mood to party... Read review
