We booked to see Grease in the Bristol Hippodrome and although we could have travelled back home the same night we decided to make a weekend of it by staying in Jury's hotel Bristol.
We booked through www.hotelclub.net which was quick and easy and also gave us a discount, the double room we booked cost £98 including full breakfast for us both.
The hotel, which is 4*, is superbly located next to quay side on the edge of city centre, so it is easy to walk into the city centre and was great for us as the Hippodrome was literally 5 minutes walk.
The hotel advertises that it has on-site parking, this can be a little misleading, I assumed that this would be free, however the car park is actually a NCP multi story, which you have to pay for, although it is subsidised by Jurys so you never have to pay more than £8 (they have a machine in reception which modified the ticket, and the NCP ticket machine accepts credit cards too which is handy).
Once parked up, check in was pretty much standard, fill in name, address, swipe your credit card to set up a tab, sign on the dotted line and then we got given our electronic door key / card and given direction to our room.
Our room was located on the top floor overlooking the riverside, which was a very pleasant view of the boats moored there and overlooks the all of the bars and clubs, which is great for people watching.
The room itself was a little small compared to some others but it was very neat, clean and tidy, there was a double bed, desk with TV on it (which has Sky TV on it - superb), wardrobe, tea / coffee making facilities and a trouser press. The bathroom however was quite roomy and had the standard, toilet, bath with shower and towel rail plus the usual complimentary toiletries. In terms of décor both were pretty much standard fair, beige and peach, with bathroom being the normal white all round. The one thing that I wasn't expecting and was a pleasant surprise was the air conditioning - superb.
As mentioned (or maybe implied) above the hotel is right next to the quay side pubs (Chicago rock, Weatherspoons - all the usual suspect) so we didn't have dinner in the restaurant, we took the 5 minute stroll and enjoyed a nice relax beside the river. We did have drink in bar on out return from the theatre later, the bar is not overly large, but again fairly pleasant, the staff pleasant and efficient with a good selection of drinks and the prices weren't too bad - a bit moor than the local bars but that is always to be expected. What I can comment on is the breakfast (which was included in the room price), the hot buffer was great with plenty of bacon. sausages, eggs (scrambled & fried), beans, tomatoes and potatoes. There was also cereals and continental available plus toast and fruit, whilst to drink there were a selection of self serve fruit juices, and tea or coffee is served to the table.
Despite overlooking the bustling dockside bars and clubs, there no noise carried to our room, so we enjoyed a good nights rest. Checkout in the morning was simple and again efficiently done, with me just having to settle the few drinks that I had charged to room and getting my NCP car park ticket modified so that the I would only have to pay £8. The it was in the left to floor 2 as there is link to the NCP to avoid to much hardship with the luggage and that was it.
All in all a very pleasant night in a very pleasant hotel - to be recommended !

I hate it when I go to a hotel and then realise you have to pay for parking. Mind you a lot are like that now aren't they, even if you have to pay a small fee instead of the full rate. Hotel sounds well placed however - Ang.
