The hotel its self is well situated and is only a short walk from the city centre and the bus station. At the bus station you can take buses to nearby places of interest such as Blarney and the old Midleton distillery.
The hotel itself has quite a large foyer and the staff at reception are friendly and helpful and are willing to arrange taxis and tell you how to get to local places of interest.
The room was fairly large and it was clean and tidy and as you would expect it was serviced daily. As well as the usual tea and coffee making facilities there was a direct dial telephone, an internet connection point (cost of €4 per hour) and a TV. The TV gets all the main Irish channels and the main BBC and ITV channels. The hair dryer is in one of the draws in the desk. The only thing lacking was that there was no safe in the room, but the hotel does have its hotel safe.
The en suite bathroom was clean and it was well set out for the size. The main problem here was that the shower was hard to turn off and on especially with wet hands. Also the extractor fan had no off setting but this was fairly quiet so it was not a major problem.
The hotel offers a laundry and dry cleaning service for clothes etc but as I did not use this service I didn't ask about the prices.
There are also vending machines on each floor but each floor has a different one (eg cans on one, snacks on another etc)
The hotel has two places to eat the main restaurant and the bar area which offers 'pub food'. The bar is cheaper and the food was good for the price. The cheapest on the menu was €11.95. On my first night I ate in the bar area and had the chicken tika. Although this may not have been the chicken tika most Brits would expect it was excellent. The drawback is that the hotel does not offer room service.
There is also a coffee bar which serves tea/coffee and a selection of pastries up until the bar closes at 1am.
As the hotel is in Ireland naturally there is no smoking in any of the public areas of the hotel. As I am a non-smoker I did not ask about whether there was an option of a 'smoking' bedroom.
As for the local area Cork is a quiet city and has some good restaurants. One to avoid in my opinion is 'Zanzibar' the food here was over cooked tasteless and of a low quality and the desert tasted as if my nephew had thrown it together from his chemistry kit.
Advantages: Economical, clean, modern, good value for money Disadvantages: No hotel car park
you wish to leave your room, you take your key with you, everything is automatically switched off. I really appreciated that and wish this system was used in every hotel worldwide!
