I have flown with KLM (or Northwest) on more than 30 occasions and am generally satisfied with their performance. Their aircraft are reasonably comfortable and modern and the routes offerred are fairly comprehensive - although you may need to fly via their hub in Amsterdam which does add to the journey time and provides greater opportunity for a missed connection or delay.
KLM are, however, generally punctual. Furthermore, they offer an excellent frequent flyer scheme - Flying Dutchman.
Staff on the ground in Amsterdam for some reason always appear miserable. Cabin crew appear fine.
