I am French but have been living in England for six years now. As a result I regularly travel back to Lyon, France and have had various experiences with airlines. As a whole, I do find KLM is one of the cheapest, especially during school holidays. The timings of the correspondences are also well planned and it is easy to go from one flight to the other without too much of a rush. Amsterdamairport is also very pleasant: spacious but not too big (5-10 minute walk), with a lot of good restaurants, bars and cafeterias. But on the other hand, I have had several problems with them. My luggage often gets lost or is damaged, and I recently had one bad experience when I was simply told the seats had been double booked, the flight was overloaded and I had to stay in Amsterdam for an extra 4 hours in order to take a flight to Edimburgh (instead of Newcastle) and then will have to get a taxi from there (3 hours drive). The staff who were at the desk were helpful but the management and after care customer ser vices weren't. No excuses were officially made and I was only given a 10 pounds voucher for food. To this day my letter of complaint has not been answered. As a conclusion, I would say KLM is good when it is a routine flight and there are no major problems but when there are, they do not take great responsibilities...then again it might happen on other airlines.

I travelled with KLM when I went to Amsterdam, and although I didn't have any serious problems like you've described, I found it all a bit cheap and not too cheerful.

It's no fun when you get messed around at airports. I hate sitting in airport lounges.
