As The Netherlands "flagship" airline flying to 250 destinations with a fleet of 190 aircraft I was really looking forward to my flight to Amsterdam with this airline. However, I was to be sorely dissapointed.
I was flying from Birmingham Airport on the first flight of the day which departed at 6.00am.
Check in was simple and the flight was on time. This however was the only positive aspect of the outbound flight! KLM claim that their fleet on 737's is the cream of the crop - however we boarded a tatty and quiet honestly smelly aircraft. The seats were tiny and I felt really crammed in to a window seat, I am only 5'7 and of average weight but my knees felt as if they were crammed in to the seat. This however was just the start ....
the STAFF ARE TERRIBLE. I have never met such a surly bunch of cabin crew in my LIFE, I do not speak Dutch - but the cabin crew tutted at any passengers that asked for beverages in English.
THE FOOD was horrendous - a stale cheese roll ..... in a packet - and that was it ... they didnt even bring around any hot drinks due to a broken water heater, the sandwiches (served at 6 in the morning remember) were literally thrown at the customers, no choice was offerered and my mother who is allergic to dairy was unable to eat her "meal", there were no in flight announcements about estimated time of arrival, and during the safety drill if looks could have killed I think the looks from the staff would have!
Ok ... so that was the outbound flight. I did think that surely the return flight would be better ....
The flight was 4 hours late leaving Schipol airport - we were driven in an airport bus for about 20 minutes into the middle of no where, it seemed as if this was the "KLM FOKKER GRAVEYARD" we were asked to board a 1976 Fokker aircraft which looked as if it was falling apart at the seems, it was tiny with ripped seats and curtains, and there was a distinct smell of stale smoking, i guess from the days gone by when passesngers were able to smoke on an aircraft - there were ashtrays in the arm rests that still contained the residues of ash.
The staff were still rude, we were served another packaged dry roll - this time however there was a choice of cheese or "meat". I asked which "meat" to which they were referring but no staff seemed to know. I risked it and it was some sort of dry sandwich beef. We were also subjected to the bounceyist flight at low altitude ive ever known. (I fly lots)
Anyway, Im guessing if you have got this far without slamming the laptop lid down due to negativity I applaude you ...
In conclusion ... KLM .... I shall not be city hopping with you or your surly staff ever again!
