Having just got back (well a few days ago) from a weeks holiday I thought I might share my experiance with you. We booked one weeks holiday in Gumbet Turkey with Kosmar approximatly ten weeks ago, through our local independent travel agents. We were drawn to this holiday because of the price really, but the hotel looked fantastic with a big pool, childrens section of the pool plus entertainment of an evening, this was ideal for us as we were travelling with our 4 month old son so we didnt want to go anywhere that was to be too lively. The flights were good too being daytime flights both there and back. Anyway we booked it and everything was running smoothly, confirmation came via the post nicely presented with the Kosmar logo and all correct details on it. Then it started to go wrong! A letter came via the post again stating that our flights had changed nearly 5 hours each way making us arrive into Bodrum at 11pm in the evening and on the return to arrive into Manchester at 1am. Not great I said to my hubby especially with the baby but we thought that would be the only downfall of this holiday. Dont get me wrong I know that flight changes can and do happen but you dont really want it hapening to you.
Flight was with Excel airways who I have no complaints about they were very good and punctual. Once in resort we were met by a man (not in a uniform or carrying any kosmar folders) saying he worked for a tour company on behalf of Kosmar and our private transfer was to take approx 40 minutes. Finally we got to our Hotel and went to check in and was told to take a seat it wont be long. After 15 minutes of sitting there the driver who dropped us off was back holding a moblie phone, my husband took the phone and started speaking he couldnt really understand so he gave it to me then came the response in broken English " problem with hotel you move to new one" . "Why?" I said, to be told " see rep tomorrow!" Not very happy but with nothing I could do we went along to this new hotel five minutes away and found it to be very small with loud music being played by the pool. this being approx 2.30am by the way and with a baby I was going mad. I phoned the number given to me for the UK office and had a few words to say to the girl on the other end, she said to bear with her she will try and sort it out for me, by this time all I wanted to do was to sort the baby out and go to bed, half an hour passed and still there was no sign so we deceided it was time to settle for the night, we unpacked the bottle steamer and started to make bottles, when we received a phone call from the rep in resort, saying we could now go back to our orginal hotel. Huraghh we said peace and quiet at last. We packed back the baby's belongings and went to reception to inform them we were going back and from being a friendly man at checkin he turned into a real horror, he started hurling abuse and swearing at me telling me I should have told Kosmar to f***off I was staying put here. I really wanted to cry he made me feal so bad. I wouldnt mind but it wasnt even a Kosmar hotel it was a Thomas Cook property. Once back at the original hotel whilst checking in I was told by the recepionist that the reason for us to be moved was because Kosmar had not paid the bill!!! I was still furious that they could be so careless a big tour operator should be able to pay bills. Nether the less we had an enjoyable holiday after we'd settled in and I have sent Kosmar a letter of complaint for which I am waiting a reply, this should not happen to anyone who has paid their money for a holiday at least not to someone who has a tired 4 month old with them.

Sorry to hear you had a bad experience initially but i'm glad you enjoyed the remainder of your holiday. My experience of hotel's in Turkey in general is that tour operators actually pay a fee at the beginning of the season to secure rooms in a hotel so I suspect the receptionist was telling you a little white lie to cover the hotel's own back. Don't let this experience put you off Turkey though.
