Well after the collapse of XL taking KOSMAR with it, I am sorry to say I told you so with my worries when I first wrote this review. The other half of the FOUNTAIN travel group (My brothers family) were caught up in the mess. They had booked for 10 Family members to have two weeks in Crete in September. They found out about the collapse 6 days before departure, and you can imagine the problem fixing up a large party with an alternative. They did after many phone calls and visits to the Travel Agent manage to get them away for a week in Portugal.
All I can beg from the Administrators that they note the Very Loyal Customer Base that KOSMAR had and try to sell of the KOSMAR operation. I know there will be thousands of KOSMAR Fanactics looking sadly at other companies Brochures.

In the past we have gone with Kosmar as our first choice for our Holidays in Greece. Our love affair with Kosmar began in May 1997 when we booked our First Holiday to Greece on the beautiful Island of Kefilonia. We had been put onto KOSMAR by a friend at work who had used them. In those days this was mainly the way people found out about KOSMAR, by recommendation by word of mouth. In fact if you went into a High Street Travel Agent you struggled to find one that knew of KOSMAR let alone have their Brochure on display.
But Greek Lovers knew of them and once booked you were hooked.
You soon learnt that they seemed to have the better Properties available, Small Units that were family run. You had no fears of the 18-30 Crowd being booked with you.
Price , you also soon learnt that if you paid £200 per person with Kosmar then most other companies, COSMOS, THOMAS COOK, THOMPSONs were charging £350 for the same deal.
Other people you talked to soon DEMANDED the Address of KOSMAR.
Their REPS were superb, very Knowlegable and although advised what Trips were available did not push sales. They knew that KOSMAR Clients could not be cohersed to buy meaningless trips.
But having said this, for those Trips to the Ancient Sites then KOSMAR always hired the most Knowlegable of Guides. We have been at Kanosis when the Guide in no uncertain terms told a Group of Noisey Americans to be quiet as she had Intelligent Clients who wanted to hear her information.
We have had many Greek Holidays with Kosmar. Kefilonia Crete (Georgioupolis three times. Crete Makriyialos Skiathos Zante Rhodes Finikounda Symi Samos The list goes on.
All have been excellent, values and locations.
But now I fear the worst. As with all Small Specialists, they do what they have done excellently, but then get taken over, as XL have done to Kosmar. Then they get bigger but not better. The Brochure now has TURKEY (5 Star All Inclusive) CYPRUS and CANARIES
When we were in Finikounda last year the REPS were already not happy with the Changes being enforced on them, that they felt was not in the Traditional Customers interest.
This year we have booked with MANOS, this was because KOSMAR did not get their Brochure out until late, I have always booked in May for the next May, Kosmar did not have their Brochure available until July.
Also Prices are getting less competitive, in the end I feel they will be no different.
Can KOSMAR Clients of the past please comment.

It's a shame when change happens that isn't apprecciated by the most important people - the customers!!

l am slightly concerned at your racist(?) comment about 'Noisey Americans' ~ wondering how you determined their identity, as sometimes other nationalities (NZ for instance) can sound more 'American' than many US Citizens, and certainly l have met many noisy 'uncouth' English without needing to assume that all are the same nationality and all equally boorish; a presumption of intelligence or lack of such is also quite patronising and can be considered offensive. l shall get off my high horse now and address the review in general ~~ very helpful in most areas, although it would be nice if you expounded a bit about facilities and assistance offered to disabled persons ~~ also it is helpful to know there are changes in areas now . . . . ~ ! ♥♥ ! ~ ........................................................... ~ jes ~ ! ♥♥ !

Futhermore I hear Excel have been checking properties over the winter - and i've been told many of the smaller accomodations who have been with Kosmar for years have been driopped. You'd be better off finding a cheap flight this year to Athens - hopping on a ferry and finding accomodation at your chosen destination. Good luck xx
