If you're looking for a relaxing break away from the stresses and strains of everyday life, then Kalymnos is the place to go. Even in May the island is hot and sunny and the sea is warm enough to swim in.
The barren, rocky landscape is a favourite with climbers and hikers, though those of us with less strenuous aims will not be disappointed.
The beaches at Linaria and Kantouni were clean and quiet (i was the only one there for three days of my week's holiday) and are lined with an assortment of tavernas ranging from small, homely and traditional, to the more stylish rooftop restaurants. All offered excellent value for money, particularly the greek salads, which were huge, and all were less than 4 euro.
Kalymnos is the perfect getaway - nothing to do but read, eat, swim and soak up the sun.
